A few days back on the occasion of Amitabh and Rekha’s birthday I spoke of how famous or popular or well received their pairing was in Bollywood movies. There were other such equally popular jodis. Viz. Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh, Vinod Mehra- Moushmi Chaterjee, Rajesh Khanna with Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna with Mumtaz, Rajesh Khanna with Asha Parekh etc in my growing up years. Actually I thought that Jaya Bhaduri never made a geat pair on screen with Amitabh, I liked her more with Sanjeev Kumar or even Jeetendra. There were popular pairing in the previous generation of stars too. But I think we have more knowledgeable people in our group to list them. Now what made a pairing popular was how well they looked together or how had their movie fared at the box office or how much recall value their songs had.
Now let us check the pairing of Rishi kapoor with Neetu Singh. I suppose they were a very much loved pair. They were young looked good together. And to have an added advantage Rishi Kapoor managed to woo Neetu Singh. Plus in the time of Amiatbh boom I suppose Rishi kapoor was one of the few whose solo hero movies fared decently at the BO. So I thought let us have a song dedicated to this pair. And mind it they look good together even now. To prove my point I suggest one viewing of “Do Dooni Char” which had this pair as parents of grown up children.
So now here is this song from “Kabhi Kabhie” penned by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Khayyam. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata.

Lyrics
Tere chehre se
tere chehre se nazar nahin hatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
tujhe milke bhi
tujhe milke bhi pyaas nahin ghaati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
pighle badan teri tapti nigaahon se
sholon ki aanch aaye barfeeli raahon se
la la la la la
pighle badan teri tapti nigaahon se
sholon ki aanch aaye barfeeli raahon se
lage kadmon se
lage kadmon se aag lipatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
tujhe milke bhi
tujhe milke bhi pyaas nahin ghatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
rangon ki barkha hai khushboo ka saath hai
kisko pataa hai ab din hai ke raat hai
la la la la la la la
rangon ki barkha hai khushboo ka saath hai
kisko pataa hai ab din hai ke raat hai
lage duniya hi
lage duniya hi aaj simatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
tere chehre se
tere chehre se nazar nahin hatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
palkon pe phailaa teri palkon ka saaya hai
chehre mein tere mera chehra chhupaaya hai
la la la la la
palkon pe phailaa teri palkon ka saaya hai
chehre mein tere mera chehra chhupaaya hai
tere jalwon ki
tere jalwon ki dhund nahin chhantati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
tujhe milke bhi
tujhe milke bhi pyaas nahin ghatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
tere chehre se
tere chehre se nazar nahin hatati
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen
nazaare hum kya dekhen

“pighle badan teri tapti nigaahon se

I like especially these 4 lines of Sahir saab.

The pair ( later became couple ) were heart throb of the then generation .Numerous romantic songs were composed on the pair . I like ‘ Ek Main aur Ek Tu ‘ ( Khel Khel Mein ) very much . Maximum of these songs were sung by Lataji and Kishoreda .

This song is so completely romantic, so appealing, so young, so happy that one cannot help but fall in love with it.
Neetu and Rishi look like they were made for each other. 🙂
