“Badi Bahu” (1951) was a Variety Pictures production. Asha Lata Biswas was the producer and Shamim Bhagat directed the movie. The movie had Shekhar, Nimmi, Raj Adib, Sulochana Chatterji, Shivraj, Chanda, etc in it.
Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from this movie.
This song is a duet which is sung by Mukesh and Lata.
I had never heard this song before. When I heard it, I realised that I had heard this tune before and it is a very well known tune too. Then I realised that the tune is the same as that of the “Baiju Bawra” song, viz. Door koyi gaaye dhun ye sunaaye. So is this song inspired from the “Baiju Baawra” song ? It should be the other way round, because “Badi Bahu” (1951) was released one year before “Baiju Baawra” (1952). Or the reason for the similarity of tune could be that they may have been inspired from similar folk tunes. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

For friends who wish to know …. Its interesting that we are trying to comment on the Anil Biswas composition ! Anilda’s song came first in the year 1951 so how can he copy Baiju Baawra which came in 1952 from “Door koi gaaye”. So that leaves us with O P Nayyar composition Tum rooth ke matt jaanaa ! This song also came much much later so both these composers ripped it off from Anilda’s song.
Now coming to Anilda’s gaanaa … This song is based on a Tappe which is Punjabi folk music … its an age old folk tune which is a very slow Tappe and he has trippled the tempo of the song and the lyrics are interesting !
