Lo chaand bhi jalne lagaa

on:“Jungle Princess” (1942) was a Wadia Movietone Production. This movie had Nadia playing a female version of Tarzan. Unlike Tarzan, who gets raised by monkeys, here Nadia (playing Mala) is raised by Lions, no less. :). She has two lion cubs as her companions at childhood and then all three grow up. Watching a grown up Nadia flanked by two grown up lions is a great sight to behold. Our beloved Memsaab has written a wonderful review of this movie here and I keep revisiting this page every time I have to discuss a song from this movie.
The review tells me that Mala’s father (S K Hasan, playing Sir Mangaldas) launches a search operation to look for his separated daughter. The search party consists of John Cawas (playing Surendra), Sardar Mansoor (playing Hamid) and CSP guy Mithhu Miyaan (playing Bahadur).
During their expedition, the search party drops at a bar where they get get entertained by the singing and dancing by Shaehzaadi. The song is
Jo koi isko peeve which has been discussed in the past.
A few thrills later (including attack by tribals and then by lions), the expedition party is rescued by Mala who takes her to her place where her father (Raja of Harambano, played by Hari Shivdasani) orders their execution. One more song follows, which is sung and picturised on Radharani (playing Meena). This song viz. Qasam jawaani ki haan ham to hain naadaan has also been discussed.
The subsequent action includes Surendra fighting a tiger in a contest and killing it. As a result the seach party is set free by the Raja. The party, going on its search is attacked by a tiger. This time Mala, ably assisted by her lion companion called Shankar come to the rescue. Lion fighting Tiger- waah waah ! What an idea for a fight scene !
Mala takes the party to her cave. By that time romance has blossomed between Nadia and John Cawas. These action duo are not known to sing songs though, so the task of singing songs on their behalf falls on others in their movies. Here it is Sardar Mansoor who sings a song for the occasion.
Here is this song from “Jungle Princess” (1942). This song is written by Pt Indra Chandra. Music is composed by Madhavlal Damodar Master.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
lo chaand bhi jalne lagaa
yaa rab bala ki aag mein
lo chaand bhi jalne lagaa
yaa rab bala ki aag mein
alla ?? ye saadgi
laakhon baras ke pyaar mein
alla ?? ye saadgi
laakhon baras ke pyaar mein
??
wo idhar bechain hai
aur wo udhar beemaar hai
wo idhar bechain hai
aur wo udhar beemaar hai
kya bijliyaan paida huyin
betaar ke is saaz mein
kya bijliyaan paida hui
betaar ke is saaz mein
lo chand bhi jalne laga
dil to baitha ja raha thhaa
dard kyun uthhne lagaa
dil to baitha ja raha thhaa
dard kyun uthhne lagaa
aa gayi taaqat kahaan ki
aaj is beemaar mein
aa gayi taaqat kahaan ki
aaj is beemaar mein
lo chaand bhi jalne laga
