Main teri gunahgaar hoon

Posted on: July 13, 2013

Yesterday (12 july 2013) brought us the sad news that Pran, the legendary villain of 1950s and 60s who then turned a legendary character actor of later decades had breathed his last. Pran Krishan Sikand (12 february 1920- 12 july 2013) made his debut in Hindi movies with “Khaandaan” (1942) as a hero. This movie was produced in Lahore, his favourite place. He subsequently made a mark as a hero in Lahore movie circles.

When partition took place, he had to flee Lahore and he reached Bombay on 14 august 1947 with his wife and infant son. In Bombay he had to start his struggles afresh. His struggles bore fruit, but this time he got roles as villain rather than as hero and the rest, as they say, was history.

Songs are picturised in Hindi movies mostly on lead actors and he indeed had such songs picturised on him in the few movies where he was the hero. For instance, his very first song as a hero was a duet with Noorjehaan in “Khaandaan”, namely ud jaa ud jaa panchhi .

In the Bombay movies that he worked, he did not have too many songs picturised on him which is understandable considering the roles that he played in them. Tere naaz uthaane ko jee chaahtaa hai in “Grihasthhi” (1948) and Jise dhoondhti phirti hai meri nazar in “Sheeshmahal”(1950) are two of the earliest such songs picturised on Pran with Sharada and Rehana respectively.

During 1950s and 1960s, Pran figured in Dil ki umangen hain jawaan where he sang for himself-.

In “Half Ticket” (1962), a comedy song viz. Aake seedhi lagi was picturised on him and Kishore Kumar. Pran was visible in “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai” (1961) viz. Ham bhi hain tum bhi ho (Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai) and in “Dil Hi To Hai” (1963) song Tum agar mujhko na chhaho.

Pran turned a character actor in 1965 with “Upkaar” (1965) and from then onwards he has figured in a few memorable songs including Kasme waade pyaar wafa in “Upkaar” (1965), Jeena to hai usikaa jisne ye raaz jaana in “Adhikaar” (1971), Do bechaare binaa sahaare in “Victoria number 203″(1972), Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi in “Zanjeer” (1973), Daru ki bottle me sahab paani bharta hai(Majboor)(1974) in “Majboor”(1974), Ham bolega to bologe ki bolta hai in “Kasauti”(1974) etc.

Pran had lip synced a song, viz. Raaz ki baat kah doon to in “Dharma” (1973). Here is another

Here is another song from “Dharma” (1973). This song is a mujra song. Pran does not lip sync in this song, but he is present in disguise as a tabla player while policemen come in, searching for him and others who are all in disguise.

This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Rafi and Omi (music director of this movie). Rekha plays the mujrewaali while Navin Nischol, Paaro etc are also visible in the picturisation.

Verma Malik is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sonik Omi.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

main teri gunaahgaar hoon

main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
main teri gunaahgaar hoon

patthar ko heeraa jaankar
dil mein basaa liyaa aa aa
patthar ko heeraa jaankar
dil mein basaa liyaa
lekin teri wafaaon se
maine dagaa kiyaa aa
maine dhagaa kiyaa aa
chaahe teri nigaah mein
chaahe teri nigaah mein
main kitni khataawaar hoon

duniya mein hai banaa huaa
dastoor pyaar kaa aa
duniya mein hai banaa huaa
dastoor pyaar kaa
jab dil mile to dekhiye
na qusoor pyaar kaa
na qusoor pyaar kaa
khoyaa huaa lutaa huaa

khoyaa huaa lutaa huaa
main teraa aitbaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar

main teri gunaahgaar hoon

hatt babbnooboon

gudchumunglaam
pakchoom pakkdhoom
bapp bapp bapp(or bakk bakk)
udd japnko jaaa ja
udd japnko jaaaa ja
udd japnko jaa

aaaa.aaaaa.aaaaa….

aaa.aaa.aaaa….aaaaaaaa
tu kaun hai main kaun hoon
iss baat se na darr……..
tu kaun hai main kaun hoon
iss baat se na darr……
jaa tujhko maaf kar diyaa
tu mujhko maaf kar
tu mujhko maaf kar
dilbar meraa bechain hai…
ae ae ae ae
dilbar mera bechain hai
to bhi main bhi beqaraar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
main tera gunaahgaar hoon

main tujhse sharamsaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon
par maaf karnaa yaar
main phir bhi teraa pyaar hoon

Ah I have such lovely memories of watching this film. It was a ‘date film’ for me. I think the only one.

Pran was fabulous in this. He was able to sell films on his presence alone and this movie demonstrated that. It was a super duper hit.
