“Mujrim” (1958) was an Eagle Films Production. It was produced by F C Mehra and directed by O P Ralhan. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Ragini, Tuntun, Shubha Khote, Kamal Kapoor, S.N.Bannerjee, Mumtaz Begum, Amrit Rana, Abdul, Agha Miraz, Sood, Ratan Gaurang, Murad, Johnny Walker, Ramesh Thakur, Geeta Bali, Padmini etc in it.
This movie had eight songs in it. Seven of these songs have been sung in the past. Here is the eighth and final song from the movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Geeta Dutt and duet. The song is picturised as a stage dance song where Padmini dresss as a Punjabi male while Raagini plays a Madrasi female. Yes, those were the days when Madras was a state, and every South Indian was a Madrasi to people of North India.
The lyrics of this song are reminiscent of the song Main Bangali chhokra from “Raagini”(1958) where Padmini plays a Madrasi chhori opposite Kishore Kumar playing a Bangali chhora. That song was written by Qamar Jalalbadi and this song from “Mujrim” is penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Both these songs had music by O P Nayyar.
