Two days ago, I had posted one song from a film that is very obscure –‘Jawahar’ (1960). The song I had posted was for the birth anniversary of Dwijen Mukhopadhyay. And I had written in the article that I have no additional information about this film. The same day, Kirit ji Bhatt almost immediately added the comment, appreciating the upload and requesting for another song from the same film. Ah, that give me encouragement that listeners in our friend circle do remember even the obscure films, because of the songs and music.

As I checked my collection, I am able to locate the song that Kirit Bhai has requested. On listening to this song, I find that it is a song about children, about how valuable they are for the nation, and that we should not neglect them, but should nourish them as they are the future of the nation. And then the occasion of today’s date jelled in my mind – I realize that we are on the celebration of Children’s Day today. This song and this day are simply made for each other, and I decided to immediately upload this and do a write up. (Atul ji on train, as I write this. But I see that he is actively posting while on the move. So I am taking the chance that he may receive this article in time for posting it within the date of today.)

The lyrics of the song are by Prem Dhawan, music is by Salil Chaudhry, and the singing voice is that of Manna Dey. As I heard the song, I could relate to the anxious request that Kirit Bhai had made in his comment. It is an enchanting song, rendered with emotion by Manna Da. The words carry an important message that is so true, for so many reasons – “Don’t let the children cry, let them be happy and laughing, make them happy”.

Kirit Bhai, I would request you to add any more information about this film, and this song in case you have. There is no information about this film. Even the Geet Kosh is silent about list of actors etc.

With a prayer that this thought, this inspiration may reach everyone and that all children, wherever they may be in this land, this world, may be blessed with happiness and fulfillment. We all know that the world is a strange cruel place, and there are millions of children that live a life that is less than human. I pray that each one of us is inspired to do their bit, and try to bring happiness to all and any children that we can reach. Let there be happiness for all, especially for the children.

Song-Bachche kyun royen bachchon ko hansne do (Jawaahar)(1960) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Salil Chaudhary

Lyrics

bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen
nanhi kaliyaan hain ye
kaliyon ko khilne do
bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen

maati mein heerey miley
inko utthhaa lo
raahon mein phool khiley
inko sajaa lo
o maati mein heerey miley
inko utthhaa lo
raahon mein phool khiley
inko sajaa lo
apna samajh kar dil se lagaa lo
bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen

yahi to hai daulat apni
yahi maan apna
yahi to aane waale
kal ka hai sapnaa
yahi to hai daulat apni
yahi maan apna
yahi to hai waale
kal ka hai sapnaa
in ke sahaare hogaa kal desh apnaa
bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen

bigde jo rang kahin
in ki nazar ke
kaante na ban jaayen
phool ujad ke
bigde jo rang kahin
in ki nazar ke
kaante na ban jaayen
phool ujad ke
insaan na ban jaaye tinke bikhar ke
bachche kyun royen
bachchon ko hansne do
bachche kyun royen
nanhi kaliyaan hain ye
kaliyon ko khilne do
khilne do
bachche kyun roye. . . ay.ay.n

Thank you Sudhirji for posting the song I requested. Sorry I do not have any further information to share except that I remember this song very clearly and the name of its film. I will now listen this song after many years. Thanks again.
