Hullo to ALL Atulites
Today is 29th December 2013. The 71st birthday of an actor who went on to become a SUPERSTAR like none before him. He reigned in the hearts of the Bollywood movie buffs for a long time. He had 15 consecutive hits from 1969-71. Even after that for a few years his movies were immensely popular and ladies were so obsessed with him that there are stories as to how he used to get Fan-Mail written in blood. Yes we are speaking of Rajesh Khanna who else as I am sure everyone would have understood by now.
There are statistics which say that he is the only hero to have appeared solo hero in 106 films. He was awarded the Filmfare Special award for this in 1991 when he completed 25 years in the industry. 1967-1975 he had 35 golden jubilee hits and 22 silver jubilees from 66-91. Inspite of having been displaced by Amitabh Bachchan from the superstar pedestal he was the highest paid actor from 1970-87. (Amitabh shared these honours with him from 80-87). In 1985 he produced “Alag Alag” which was also well received and subsequent to that he had 11 releases as solo hero that year of which 8 were hits.
So what happened when trends changed suddenly? When movies became more action packed and less family or social or romantic in nature Khanna’s films went on a decline. But even in this period he played critically acclaimed roles and also had hits like Avtaar, Thodi SI Bewafaii, Souten, Fifty fity, Chhaila Babu etc.
During this time there was this movie which was directed by Mehmood. It had Rajesh Khanna as the main lead with Yogita Bali as co-star. Ashok Kumar, Kanhaiyalal and Lalita Pawar were the supporting cast. Hema Malini had an extended special appearance in this movie. The songs were the handiwork of Majrooh Sultanpuri and Rajesh Roshan. And it was a pleasant change in that Anwar got to playback for Rajesh Khanna and not Kishore Kumar. This movie did average business at the box- office. But one song has stood the test of time even if all the songs in movie were nice to the ear.

hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
ab to chaaron hi taraf band hai duniya ki gali ee
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
dil kisi ka na dukhe
humne bas itna chaaha
paap se door rahe
jhooth se bachna chaaha
paap se door rahe
jhooth se bachna chaaha aa
uska badla ye mila
ulti chhuri hum pe chali
ab to chaaron hi taraf band hai duniya ki gali
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
hum pe ilzaam ye hai
chor ko kyun chor kaha
kyun sahi baat kahi
kaahe na kuchch aur kaha
kyun sahi baat kahi
kaahe na kuchch aur kaha
ye hai insaaf tera
waah re daataa ki gali
ab to chaaron hi taraf band hai duniya ki gali
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
ab to imaan dharm ki koi keemat hi nahin
jaise sach bolne waalon ki zaroorat hi nahin
jaise sach bolne waalon ki zaroorat hi nahin
aisi duniya se toh duniya teri veeraan bhali
ab to chaaron hi taraf band hai duniya ki gali
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili

Part II

Tokhre hum ko qabool
Rah kisi ko mil jaye
Hum huye zakmi to kya
Dooje ka gushaan khil jaye
Hum huye Zakmi to kya
Dooje ka gushaan khil jaye
Daag sab hum ko mile
Yaar ko sab phool mile
Daag sab hum ko mile
Yaar ko sab phool kali
Zindgani ki sama
Bhooj ke agar rah jaye
Ye samj lenge ki hum
Aaj kisi kaam aaye
Ye samj lenge ki hum
Aaj kisi kaam aaye
Jyot apni bhooji yaar
Ke jeevan me jhale
Jyot apni bhooji yaar
Ke jeevan me jhale.

Nice post Peevesie’s Mom ji…!!!
Our tributes to the one and only Superstar of the Hindi Film Industry – RAJESH KHANNA.
thanks for launching this film on our blog and this song from Anwar Saab, a very ‘special’ and ‘beautiful’ voice.
(I had shared the song ‘ teri aankhon ki chhahat mein’ from this film to Atul ji almost a year back).
thanks !

Anwar’s voice was closet to Rafi. Nobody else can come closer to Rafi.
Unfortunately his so called frenemies and duplicates of Rafi packed him to overseas tours. In this cruel industry the maxim ‘out sight out of mind’ also got applied treacherously to Anwar. By the time he came back he was no where and had to sing all his life his own famous song:
ulti chhuri hum pe chali
ab to chaaron hi taraf band hai duniya ki gali
hum se ka bhool huyi
jo ye saza humka mili
