Today (26 january 2014) is the 65th Republic day of India. It is easily the most important red letter day in the annals of independent India because India became a democratic republic on this day. Considering the old habits the Indians were used to for thousands of years, this was a new concept for Indians and many Indians have not fully reconciled to this concept even today, but this concept has paved the way for a nation where all Indians , irrespective of their backgrounds were guaranteed equality- something which was not guaranteed to them before 26 january 1950. Republic day also stresses the fact that India represents unity in diversity and that Indians, for all their diverse backgrounds can live and work with their fellow countrymen in harmony.

On this occasion, here is a song from “Aakraman” (1975). This song is a stage dance song. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey and chorus. the song is piucturised on Rekha, Ashok Kumar, Sundar, Aruna (Marathi dancer) etc. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

I take this opportunity to wish a happy Republic day to one and all.

hansi aati hai hamko
aajkal ke naujawaanon par
dawa dard-e-jigar ki dhoondhte hain
jo dukaanon par ar

tadapkar pyaar mein jeene se
bas ilzaam miltaa hai
bas ilzaam miltaa hai
watan ki raah mein marne se hi
aaraam miltaa hai
aaa haaa aaraam miltaa hai
watan ki raah mein marne se hi
aaraam miltaa hai
mausam saal maheenaa jhooth
marnaa sach hai jeenaa jhooth
mausam saal maheenaa jhooth
marnaa sach hai jeenaa jhooth
ishq watan daa sachchi baaaaaat
ho o o o
ishq watan daa sachchi baat
teraa husn haseenaa jhooth
mausam saal maheenaa jhooth
marnaa sach hai jeenaa jhooth

mausam saal maheenaa jhooth
marnaa sach hai jeenaa jhooth

shamm-e-watan par ban`kar
parwaane jal jaayenge

aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge

aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge

yahaan paidaa huye hum yaa wahaan
kyaa farq padtaa hai
koyee ho rang
koyee ho zubaan
kyaa farq padtaa hai ae ae

zubaan hai issi liye ke
aadmi matlab hai kyaa samjhe
matlab hai kyaa samjhe
na samjhe iss pe hi jo naa-samajh
usse khudaa samajhe
aahhaa usse khudaa samjhe
na samjhe iss pe bhi jo naa-samajh
usse khudaa samajhe
kyun hai beher zubaanon par
apnon aur begaanon par
kyun hai beher zubaanon par
apnon aur begaanon par
ab tak lehraate thhe hum
ho o o o
o o o o
ab tak lehraate thhe hum
jhandaa sirf makaanon par

kyun hai beher zubaanon par
apnon aur begaanon par

aaj tirangaa dilon mein apne hum lehraayenge
aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge
aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge

punjaabi gaayenge
aa..hhaa….aaaaa
maraathi gaayenge
o…oohho…oooo
gujraati gaayenge
aa..hhaa…aaaaaa
bangaali gaayenge
aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge
aaj chalo milkar hum sab
qawwaali gaayenge
