“Shikaari” (1946) was directed by Savak Vacha for Filmistan. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Veera, Paro, Rama Sukul, S L Puri, Leela Mishra, Kishore Kumar, V H Desai, Samson etc in it.
Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is another song from the movie which I heard for the first time only just now and I was floored. This song is sung by Paro Devi. I have heard a few light hearted song sung by her before, but this is a “missing the beloved” genre of song and she shines in it.
Listening to the lyrics, one can be sure that they are written by some true blue Hindi poet, and so it is. Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist.
The folk music based tune sounds familiar because S D Burman, the music director has used it elsewhere as well, most notably for his famous bhanwra NFS viz. “dheere se jaana bagiyan mein”.
What a delightful song to listen to. And I am surprised to know that this song is regarded as a “very rare song”, in the words of the uploader of this song. This song certainly deseves to be much better known.

I do have a doubt about singer Paro Devi(because in the video links of both songs posted in the blog, Actress Paro Devi`s photographs are included, that`s why my doubt about the 2 persons)whether she is the same Paro Devi, who in movies like Mehboob Ki mehandi,Mera Gaaon Mera desh,Shrafat(dharmendra) and in many movies of early seventies Paro->this actress appeared as madam of kotha, where mujra takes place.Whether the singer and the actress PARO DEVI are one and the same ???
