Kaayda tod ke socho ek din

On October 10th 2014, the frozen in time diva Bhanurekha Ganeshan (the birth name of the person we know as just Rekha) turns 60. I had a tough time trying to select a song for the occasion. At first I thought I will do the usual of finding an Amitabh- Rekha song as their birthdates are 10th and 11th October. Then on going through “the list of songs movie wise” and comparing it with the list on I realized that the song sung by Rekha in her own voice is still to be posted.

This song is penned by Gulzar for Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Khoosoorat” which released in 1980 when I was in high school. I was bowled over by Rekha in this movie. (Up til then I thought that I loved Hema Malini.) After seeing her in this movie I saw any crap movie also which featured her, or atleast pestered my father to take me to see them. In the process I saw movies like “Locket”, “Agreement”, and “Jaal”, to name some.

The last song from this movie was posted on 8th September 2013 on the occasion of Asha Bhonsle’s birthday (Sun Sun Didi Tere Liye). Effectively this is the final song from this movie on Rekha’s birthday. Why I say effectively is because as per the song “Saare Niyam Tod Do” has two parts to it. The first part was posted on the blog in 2010 and Peevesie had provided the lyrics for the extension there in its comments. Also I found a link to the audio for the extension on Myswar ( but no link to that on YouTube. So that is why I say that this is the last song.

The male voice that has given playback for Ranjit Chowdry is Sapan Chakravarty.
So I think this movie also joins the YYIIPPEEEE!! list.

Song-Kaayda tod ke socho ek din (Khoobsoorat)(1980) Singers-Rekha, Sapan Chakravorty, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-R D Burman

kaayda tod ke
socho ek din
arey kaayda tod ke
socho ek din
chaand nikalta neeche se
maidaan mein rakha hota
meethi hoti mitti uski
meethe ghaas aur patte
arey socho chaand pe doodh ke
gahre dariya bahtee
gorey gorey us mein
bhaalu cheete rahte

oonche oonche teele
hote kulfi ke khet
aur ghaass faluda hoti
didi to kya majaa aata

aur haath me chamach
le ke jaate
raat din bas chand hi khaate
chaahe hota jaayda
kaayda kaayda
aakhir faayda
are kaayda kaayda
aakhir faayda

achhca socho
sooraj ka rang neela hota
aur pedon ka rang laal
panchhi rahte pani mein
aur machchi gagan vishaal
Waah waah waah

sooraj ka rang neela hota
pedo ka rang laal
panchhi rahte paani mein
aur machchi gagan vishaal
daata toone kiya kamaal
daata tune kiya kamaal
uper gagan vishaal

achcha socho
nahi nahi
soch ke dekho
khet mein ugti toffee
ped pe falte laddu pede
aur nal kholo to coffee

achcha socho
soch ke dekho
khet mein ugti toffee
ped pe falte laddu pede
nal kholo to coffee
didi aisa kyo nahin hota hai
jo hota hai who kyon hota hain

phir wahi kayda
kayda kayda aakir fayda
are kaayda kaayda
aakhir faayda
