“Zeenat”(1945) was directed by Syyad Shaukat Hussain Rizvi for Eastern Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Noorjahaan, Yakub, Karan Diwan, Bibbo, Shanta Rani, Majid, Himalaywala, Dixit, Jillobai, Laddan, Shah Nawaz, Naseem (Junior), Agha, Nazeer Kashmiri, Sengar, Amir Ali etc in it.

The story of the movie, in brief, was (as recounted by Mr Bharat Upadhyay, while discussing an earlier song from the movie is:

Zeenat was a controversial Muslim social film, much ahead of its times, Where a widow is harassed, her character is doubted for having a baby after her Husband’s death. Veteran Yakub saves her from ‘badnaami’ before the film comes to ‘The End’.

There were two Music Directors viz., Mir Saheb and Hafiz Khan in the movie as well as three four lyricists, namely Mahrul Qadri, Nakshab, Anjum and Shewan Rizvi.

Despite having so many lyricists and music directors in the movie, lyricist and music director of this song are not known. I have provisionally considered Hafiz Khan as the music director of this song. Even the singer of this movie is not identified in the main text of HFGK (part II). The corrigendum mentions this song as sung by Noorjahaan which is clearly incorrect.

One of the YT uploads of this song tells us that Kalyani, Amirbai Karnataki, Zohrabai Ambalewali are the singers of this movie and I think that this identification is correct.

With this song, the eighth song from the movie, “Zeenat”(1945) now joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

I am unable to identify the ladies who lip sync this song on screen. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.

I can identify Shyama and Shanti Madhok on the swings. In the beginning there is Shantarin and Nassem (Jr) as well. Naseem,s name was later on changed to Suraiya Choudury
