After ‘yippifying’ ‘Samundari Daku’ let us attack ‘Anjali’(1957) (Sorry, no attacking, just proceeding with this non-violent film) Chetan Aanand directed this 1957 film under the banner of ‘Kala Kunj Pvt. Ltd.’. He and Nimmi ware the hero-heroine, with the supporting star cast of Sitara, Krishna Dhawan, Sheila Ramani, Sapru, Kumkum, Mehmood, Misra, Kammo, Jagdish Raj, B S Thapa etc. Jaidev composed ten songs for this film, to the lyrics of Nyay Sharma.
Three songs are already posted and discussed in this melodious Blog. I have six songs, including this one, ready with me, which I will present, one by one. I am searching for the remaining one song, ‘Lo Chori Pakadi Gayee’ sung by Asha, Usha and Meena from one family and Sudha Malhotra from Khar, Mumbai. I have requested my musical friends to search it for me and I am hopeful, like last time, to get it before these six songs are posted and done with.
Jaidev has shown his creativity based on Indian Classical music and using Indian musical instruments in this lilting song by Lata. The song seems to be in Mishra Khamaj with touches of Bhairav, at ‘aankhiyaan bairaagi ‘ …(Again, according to MY limited knowledge of Indian Classical music.) Experts may comment and by correcting me help increase my knowledge.

Thanks Bharat ji for a very sweet song from the lajawab combination of Lata & Jaidev. It is no less than the other very popular number, ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachchhami’.
‘Anjali’ was the film in which I first noted Jaidev’s music. What a superb composer he was. It is really difficult to pick up his best creative score from his many films, inter alia, “Hum Dono”, “Mujhe Jeene Do”, “Reshma Aur Shera”, “Do Boond Pani”, “Prem Parbat”, “Gaman”, “Aalaap”, being my personal favourites.
