So the experience repeats itself yet once again. Search and locate, and listen, as many songs as you may.  There still will be many more songs that will surprise you. This song is coming based on a request from a far away land. A friend and visitor on the blog from West Indies, the name of the gentleman is Ramdass, has requested to locate this song, and to post it.

About a couple of months ago, I get this message from Atul ji. He wrote about Ramdass ji, a visitor on the blog from West Indies.  Then he added that this gentleman has been persistently requesting him to locate a particular song, for a long time now, actually for some years now. He is not able to recall any details, except the words.  He remembers the mukhda of the song, and that’s just it.  Atul ji has been trying to identify this song, but without success. He had formed an opinion that this would at best be a non-film song or at least a non-Hindi film song.  So, after getting hold of the Geet Kosh, next time Ramdass ji sent a reminder to locate this song, Atul ji says that he went into the Geet Kosh index and this time he is able to locate this song. And his guess is very correct.  This song is from a Bhojpuri film from 1965 – ‘Ganga’.

The identification step having been accomplished, the search now started for the song itself.  As part of that process, Atul ji wrote to me as well.  It took me some time to get around spending time to go through my collection. But surely I did find it, sitting in the folders of non-Hindi film songs.  Truthfully, it has been sitting on my hard disk for some time, but I had never gotten around to listen to it. . . yet.  Prompted by the reminders from Atul ji, I wrote back that he should inform Ramdass ji that the song has been located. That message having sent out, I am sure Atul ji must have been receiving persistent enquiries, because I know that Atul ji sent me more reminders to post the same. And so, here it is today.

I played it when I located it few days back, and have listened repeatedly to it since then. Goodness, what a lovely gem of a song. No wonder that Ramdass ji has not been able to get it out of his mind. The song has all the beautiful reasons to stick in the memory, and no reasons to be forgotten. Both the songwriter and the music director are from the area where Bhojpuri is spoken and the Bhojpuri folk music is sung.  Shailendra ji’s native place is in the Aara district in Bihar and Chitragupt ji is from the Saran district in the same region.  The two artists have come together to create a song of unmatchable beauty, reflecting the folk genre and the ethos of the Bhojpuri culture. Everything is connected with Krsna, even the romantic parlays are manifested in the expressions of the pastimes of the Lord himself.

Sitting in the obscure and mostly uncharted side alleys of ‘nearly’ Hindi language genres, this song is an enchanting creation, so lovingly rendered by Lata ji. I am sure I speak for all our community of lovers of this music, that we are indebted to the memory of Ramdass ji and his persistent reminders that we are now familiar with this song, and we listen to it today. That is how I feel, listening to this song for the first time in recent days. I am sure you will too, when you listen to it.

Enjoy.

ओss ओssss
ओs ओss

ओss ओssss
ओs ओss
