Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Zindagi Hum Se Hui Hai Door

I happened to listen to this short song for the first time in today’s program on Radio Ceylon and instantly fell in love with it. It is from the film ‘Dhuaan’ (1953) under the music direction of Dhaniram. The first step in sending the post was obviously to check if it has been already posted. For this I usually open all the songs posted from the film and also read the comments herein.

It seems the song under discussion was excluded from the film. The film also has one song composed by Vasant Desai. Some interesting discussion between Arunkumar Sir and Sadananad ji has revealed these details in the comments sections.

I reproduce the following details from Sadanand ji’s write up.  The film was produced under the banner of Rup Nagar and produced, directed by Roshan Lal Malhotra. The cast included Rajan, Usha Kiran, Asha Mathur, Pratima Devi, Ulhas, Mumtaz, Sanjana etc. The lyrics of the present song are attributed to Rajendra Krishan.

Coming to today’s song, sung by Lata Mangeshkar, it’s less than 3 minutes in duration, but an extremely melodious one to listen.

NOTES:
paamaal = ruined, destroyed

Song – Zindagi Hum Se Hui Hai Door (Dhuaan) (1953) Singer – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Rajendra Krishan, MD – Dhaniram

Lyrics

zindagi humse huyi hai door
pyar ne kiya hamen majboor
kisi ko yaad karte hai
na jeete hain na marte hain
zindagi humse huyi hai door
pyar ne kiya hamen majboor
kisi ko yaad karte hai
na jeete hain na marte hain

hua hai gham se dil pamaal
na poochho na poochho
mujhse mera haal
hua hai gham se dil pamaal
na puchho mujhse mera haal
bana tha dil mein jo mehman
usey haaye dil na saka pehchan
usi ko yaad karte hain
na jeete hain na marte hain

mitaane ke liye kya aashiaan
koi banata hai
chaman ko baghbaan kab
apne hathon se jalaata hai
hui kuch humse aisi bhool
khile na armano ke phool
magar ab aah bharte hai
na jite hain na marte hain

Hindi script lyrics (Provided by Sudhir)
———————————————————-

I feel I have heard many times; the lines
kisi ko yaad karte hai
na jeete hain na marte hain
sounds so familiar to me.
Great stuff. There are so many of such Lata’s lilting lyricals.

It is one of my favorite songs which I often hear during my home walkathon.
