Genius of Jaidev – 38
—————————-
The only song by Lata out of six songs from 1969 film ‘Sapna’ is presented here. It is not only melodious but also a heart-touching song describing the pangs of a ‘Virahini’ (separated naayika). B N Mangal’s simple lyrics are set to tune by genius Jaidev adding situation required pathos that brings tears, whenever I hear it. (Which is quite often) Aise ‘nithhur piya’ ko maarne ko bhi man karta hai. It goes without saying that the divine voice of Lata is a major contributing part in creating that effect.
Directed by R Kaushik, under the banner of ‘Lalmani Chitra’, this social film ‘Sapna’ had star-cast of Dilip Raj, Nivedita, Manmohan Krishnan, Jagdeep, Mohan Choti, Bhagwan Sinha etc. Six singers contributed their voices, under the baton of Jaidev.
With this song, both the Mangeshkar sisters are covered. For the remaining songs by the four voices namely Rafi Sb, Krishna Kalle, Manna Dey and Lakshmi Shankar I am awaiting for the meherbani of uparwala. (Delhi Mumbai se upar hi hai naa?) (lekin kya ‘uperwala jaan ke anjaan hai’)

Song–Jaane Kitni Baar Hriday Se (Sapna) (1969) Singer– Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – B N Mangal, MD – Jaidev
Lyrics
Jaane kitni baar hriday se
maine use pukaara aa aa aa
Jaane kitni baar hriday se
maine use pukara aa
nithhur piya ke kaanon tak par meri aawaz na pahonchi
nithhur piya ke kaanon tak par meri aawaz na pahonchi
nithhur piya aa aa
jaane kitne saawan beete
jaane
jaane kitne saawan beete
gham ke aansoo peete peete
jaane kitne saawan beete
gham ke aansoo peete peete
jo baat sajan se kehni thhi
lab tak mere woh baat na pahonchi
nithhur piya
jaane kitne dekhe sapne
jab se roothhe priyatam apne
jaane kitne dekhe sapne
jab se roothhe priyatam apne
dhhal chali umar armaanon ki
par sapnon ki woh raat na pahonchi
nithhur piya aa aa
uhoon …… uhoon oon
uhoon …… uhoon oon

Excellent ! Upadhyayji really its a true sweet 🍬 and melodic song by great jaidevji . It seems that this tune was in his mind for many years finally it came in the form of tu chanda… In Reshma aur shera and rest is history

This song became my favourite the day I heard it first. And who wouldn’t be?
Does anyone know what Raag is it based on? In the book Dhunon Ki Yatra by Pankaj Raag it mentions ahir Bhairav…but for some reason I get a feel of Charukeshi.
i was very happy to see this song posted here on this site. I enjoyed reading about other articles on Jaidev-ji compositions.
