“Mehndi”(1947) was directed by Sibtain Fazli for Fazli Films, Bombay. The movie had Nargis, Begam Para, Murad, Ghori, Jillobai, Jaani babu, Protima Devi, Chacha Premi, Anwari, Zaki, Baby Shyama etc in it.

There were eight songs in this obscure movie. Here is the first song from “Mehndi”(1947) to appear in the blog. This song, a ghazal, is as obscure as the movie itself, is sung by Munawwar Sultana (singer, different from actor of the same name). Sagar Nizami is the lyricist of this melancholic song. Music is composed by Ghulam Haider.

Song-Ab dil mein hai barbaad tamanna ke siwa kya(Mehndi) (1947) Singer-Munawwar Sultana, Lyrics-Sagar Nizami, MD-Ghulam Haider

Lyrics

ab dil mein hai
barbaa aa aad tamanna ke siwa kya
aa aa aa aa
jab tum na rahe
phir meri duniya mein raha kya
meri duniya mein raha kya
ya rabb
mere armaan ka chaman kisne ujaada
ye loot li kisne meri ummeed ki duniya
ye baithhe bithhaaye mere allaah hua kya
jab tum na rahe
phir meri duniya mein raha kya
meri duniya mein raha kya

aansoo bhari aankhon ko uthaaya nahin jaata
wo dekh rahi hoon
wo dekh rahi hoon
ke jo dekha nahin jaata
ab dekhna hai
aur dikhaata hai khuda kya
jab tum na rahe
phir meri duniya mein raha kya
meri duniya mein raha kya

hamne tumhen pooja hai mohabbat ke bahaane
jab hamse mohabbat na nibhaayi gayi tumse
hamne tumhen pooja hai mohabbat ke bahaane
jab hamse mohabbat
jab hamse mohabbat na nibhaayi gayi tumse
ghairon se nibaahoge bhala ae bewafa kya
jab tum na rahe
phir meri duniya mein raha kya
meri duniya mein raha kya

Very rare song. Voice is something blend of Khurshid and shamshed – it’s great collection.
