“Inkaar”(1977) was directed by Raj N Sippy for Uttam Chitra, Bombay. This was a suspense movie starring Vinod Khanna, Vidya Sinha, Dr Shreeram Laagoo, Sadhu Meher, Amjad Khan, Helen, Lily Chakraborty, M Rajan, Ranjeeta Thakur, Sheetal, Bharat Kapur, Master Raju, Master Rajesh, Shekhar Purohit, Kamaldeep, Harish, Chandu, Pardesi, Chopra, Ranveer Raj, Siddharth, Ratna, Dharmaveer etc, with Rakesh Roshan and Keshto Mukherji in guest roles.
This movie was a a nice suspense movie that I had seen in the night show and I found myself in suspense throughout the movie till the end end as the movie maker would have intented. But Indian movie goers were (still are) not prepared for movies that are even slightly off the beaten track. The movie failed at the box office, no doubt because the movie goers who watched this movie in the earlier shows revealed the identity of the bad guy to others thus totally spoiling the suspense element of the movie for them.
The movie ended up being remembered for its catchy Helen dance song, Mungdaa Mungdaa main gud ki dalli rather than for the story of the movie. What a pity !
That Helen dance song also featured Keshto Mukherji, and that was one of the rare occasions when Keshto mukherji figured prominently in a song. Keshto Mukherji was a guest artist in this movie and he was roped in only to appear in this song. Helen too figured in the movie only in this song but she was billed as a regular artist in the movie rather than a guest artist.
The movie had only four songs in it including a multiple version song.
Two songs from the movie have already been discussed in the past. Only the multiple version song is left to be discussed.
Here is that multiple version song from “Inkaar”(1977). The song has happy and sad versions. Both versions are sung br Rafi. The happy version is picturised as a get together song where Rakesh Roshan (billed as a guest artist) lip syncs this song. Dr ShreeRam Lagu plays Rakesh Roshan’s elder brother. I am unable to identify the lady playing Dr Shreeram Laagoo’s wife. Vidhya Sinha plays Rakesh Roshan’s love interest. I hope I have got my facts right. The mystery villain is lurking around seeking to carry out his heinous act while the happy version of this song is being lip synced by Rakesh Roshan and a kid (whom I am unable to identify).
The song also has a sad version which gets played later when the villain has succeeded in carrying our his heinous act. Only the audio of this version is available and it is quite a brief song.
Majrooh Sultanbpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.
I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors whom I have been unable to identify.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala some three years ago.
With this song, “Inkaar”(1977) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Atul ji,
In this film, Vidya Sinha is the younger sister of Dr Shreeram Lagoo, and hence sister to Rakesh Roshan.
Vidya Sinha and Vinod Khanna, are the love pair in this film, as is apparent from the song “Chhodo Ye Nigaahon Ka Ishaara. . .”.
This love song appears in the film as a flashback. In some prior times, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo had objected to the friendship of his sister with Vinod Khanna, and made them part. Now, when the disaster strikes his family, it the very same person, as the police officer, who is assigned to help him.
This film is a must see.
