‘Pagle’ (1950) was directed by Pratima Dasgupta for Mercury Productions, Bombay. The movie had Begum Para, Madhuri, Jagirdar, Pratima Devi, Mubarak, David, Kukku, Agha Jaan, Sherry etc in it.

This obscure movie had nine song in it that were pened by three lyricists viz. Anjum Rehmani, Behzaad Lucknavi and Kaabil Amritsari.

Five songs from “Pagle”(1950) have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie to appear in the blog.

This rare song is credited as sung by Begam Para. But the voice clearly is that of Rajkumari. Going by the earlier songs of this movie, we notice that HFGK mentions the name of the actors as singers, whereas the singers are different.

Lyricist is not known. Music is composed by Snehal Bhatkar (credited as V G Bhatkar in this movie).

Only the audio of this song is available but seeing that HFGK mentions Begam Para as the “singer”, it is clear that this song was picturised on Begam Para.

I have not been able to get a few words correct in the lyrics/ I request our readers with keere ears to fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable in the lyrics.

PS-The lyricist of this song is Behzad Lucknowi, as pointed out by Mr Sadanand Kamath.

Song-Tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon (Pagle)(1950) Singer-Rajkumari,  Lyrics-Behzad Lucknowi, MD-Snehal Bhatkar

Lyrics

tum mera dil
tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon
meri duniya pe chhaao to janoon
ho meri duniya pe
ho meri duniya pe chhaoo to jaanoon
tum mera dil
tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon
meri duniya pe chhaao to jaanoon
ho meri duniya pe
ho meri duniya pe chhaoo to jaanoon

maine maana ke tum mehjabeen ho
maine maana ke tum mehjabeen ho
baanke tirchhe ho aur tum haseen ho
baanke tirchhe ho
baanke tirchhe ho aur tum haseen ho
mujhpe jaadoo chalaao to jaanoon
mujhpe jaadoo chalaao to jaanoon
tum mera dil
tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon
meri duniya pe chhaao to janoon
ho meri duniya pe
ho meri duniya pe chhaoo to jaanoon

kaam degi na ye khoshantaayi(?)
kaam degi na ye khoshantaayi(?)
saath degi na kuchh ye dhhithhaai
saath degi na kuchh ye dhhithhaai
mujhko apna banaao to jaanoon
mujhko apna banaao to jaanoon
tum mera dil
tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon
meri duniya pe chhaao to jaanoon
ho meri duniya pe
o meri duniya pe chhaao to jaanoon

laakh milne ke dhoondho bahaane
laakh milne ke dhoondho baahaane
laakh joda karo taane-baane
laakh joda karo taane-baane
mujhko ismein phansaao to jaanoon
mujhko ismein phansaao to jaanoon
tum mera dil
tum mera dil lubhaao to jaanoon
meri duniya pe chhaao to jaanoon
ho meri duniya pe
meri duniya pe chhaao to jaanoon

Youthful and lively song.
“koshan” means ‘engaged in making efforts’; so I presume ‘koshantaaii’ would mean ‘making efforts’. The word may be ‘koshantaaii’.

Thanks to ,my wife Fareeda, a Urdu-daan, for deciphering two curious words. The word is “khoosh adaayi” meaning best behavior or with good mannerisms. The word in the next line should be “dhi-tayee”, meaning stubbornness. The lyricist has wonderfully made two opposites come true in his lines!

Its Begum Para who sang the song.
Lyrics could be from one of them>>
Behzad LakhnavLyi,, Kabil Amritsari,or Anjum Rehmani

Atul ji,

As per the details of mp3 clip uploaded by Girdharilal Vishwakarma on Dr. Surjit Singh’s website, the lyricist is Behzad Lucknowi.

Thanks for the information
