Today 13th of October is a rather sad date for fans of Bollywood music. It was on this date in 1987 that we lost a gem of the industry to “KAAL”. Its 30 years already and we are yet to find an entertainer like him. We still don’t have a singer, actor (brilliant in comedy), composer, song-writer, and finally a producer-director like him. Our own Kishore Kumar.
Born in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, to Kunjalal Ganguly and Gauri Devi as brother to Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Sati Devi he was a fan of K.L.Saigal. On completing graduation Abhas Kumar (birthname)started his cinema career as chorus singer in Bombay Talkies where his brother Ashok Kumar worked. His first screen appearance was in Shikari (1946) in which his brother was the lead. So that started his acting career and with “Marne ki duayen kyun maangu” under the music baton of Khemchand Prakash in “Ziddi” (1948) his singing career took off. But why am I listing all that hear, these are all well known facts. So, I will just say MISSING YOU KISHOREDA.
13th October also happens to be the death anniversary of the eternal mother Nirupa Roy. My first memory of her is as mother to Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor in “Deewar” as a person who single-handedly brings up her two kids once her husband deserts the family. Next, I think her character in “Amar Akbar Anthony” stands out. But I know I have seen her as mother to Vinod Khanna (Aan Milo Sajna), Dharmendra (infinite times), Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna- do I need to list all her filmy children here? But just because I have seen her in motherly roles doesn’t mean she started off as a mother; she has also played a leading lady in the late 40s through the 50s to the 60s. she has played a goddess in many mythologicals and has had Trilok Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Balraj Sahni, and Bharat Bhushan as her leading men.
Professor Pyarelal (1981) is a film directed by Brij, starring Dharmendra, Vinod Mehra, Nirupa Roy, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman & Simi. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and Rajinder Krishan was the lyricist.
With this song, which runs through the movie, in four parts, we remember both Kishore Kumar and Nirupa Roy.

yes you are right Prakashji. i found audio link for “dil ki kushi yun” and “aisa bhi koi aata hai mauka” and i sent it but couldn’t locate videos for it. can you find videos?
