Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part XIII: Year 1959

In this episode, we discuss Lata Mangeshkar songs that she sang in Hindi movies released in 1959.
In 1959, 114 Hindi movies contaning 803 songs were released. Lata Mangeshkar got to sing in 58 of these movies and she sang a whopping 211 songs in these movies. So Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was heard in 51 % of the movies released in 1959. Her voice was heard in 26 % of the songs appearing in the movies of 1959. So one can say that Lata Mangeshkar enjoyed absolute dominance during 1959 as a playback singer.

One notices that Lata Mangeshkar did not have a single song with C Ramchandra this year because she fell out with him this year. Husnlal Bhagatram, a major music director for Lata Mangeshkar in her early days had bowed out by then and even they were conspicuous by their absence this year. Suprprisingly, Lata Mangeshkar did not have a single song with Naushad this year.
Lata Mangeshkar tied up with music directors Krishn Rao for the first time in this year. She tied up with lyricists Mushtar Haideri and Naqsh Llayalpuri for the first time in 1959.

One notices that Lata Mangeshkar completed 2000 songs as a playback singer during this year. There is another major landmark that few people noticed. This year she completed 100 duet songs with Rafi. Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar had a whopping 26 duets in 17 movies during this year. That took the tally of their duets to 124 by 1959.
The major music directors for Lata Mangeshkar till then were C Ramchandra (263), Shankar Jaikishan (225), Anil Biswas (114), Husnlal Bhagatram (108), Roshan (101), Madan Mohan (94), S D Burman (87) and Naushad (76) who had accounted for 1068 of her songs till then. Top lyricists for her were Rajinder Krishan (355), Shailendra (214), Hasrat Jaipuri (147), Shakeel Badayuni (115), Bharat Vyas (104) and Prem Dhawan (101). Together, they penned 1036 Lata Mangeshkar songs.
Looking at the table of 1959, we see that Lata Mangeshkar sang 211 songs in movies of 1959. As many as 188 of these songs are already covered in the blog. Only 23 Lata songs from movies of 1959 are left to be covered. Out of 58 movies of 1959, only 11 movies have some Lata Mangeshkar songs still left to be covered.
Alphabetically, the first such movie is “Do Behnen”(1959). This movie was produced by J P Sahgal and Kailash Kapoor and directed by Kedar Kapoor for Brij Kala Mandir, Bombay. The movie had Shyama, Rajendra Kumar, Chaand Usmani, Radhakishan, Tiwari, Rammohan, S K Prem, Mumtaz, Jaleel, Kesho, Brahmdutt, Padmini Priydarshini, Leela Mishra etc in it.
The movie had seven songs in it. Five songs, including four songs containing the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in them have been covered so far.
Here is the sixth song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and chorus. Kavi Pradeep is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vasant Desai.
The song is picturised as a Maharashtrian Lavani dance song. I am unable to identify the dancer and others seen in the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.
The video is of poor quality. The lyrics are based on audio version which is clearer and longer.
