Blog Day :

5036 Post No. : 16947

Today’s song is from the ‘1949’ movie ‘Saawan Bhaadon’.

I think I had never gone through the songs of this movie earlier. Our regular reader on the blog Shri Deepak Patwardhan ji has send me ‘farmaaish’ of this song (he had even offered to note down the lyrics of this song too, however I told him that I will take care of that  ). And this is the reason that I got a chance to present a song from this movie on the blog today.

That also gives us an opportunity to have ‘a look on the list of songs this movie has.

But before that here is a brief about this movie.

“Saawan Bhaadon-1949” was directed by Ravindra Dave for ‘Prakash Pictures, Bombay.

It had Munawwar Sultana, Ramsingh, Randhir, Indu, Om Prakash, Jankidas, Raj Adeeb, Nirmal Kumar, Anwaribai, Baby Shyama, Gulnar, Tribhuwan Sinha and others.

As per HFGK Vol-II (1941-1950), ‘Saawan Bhaadon’ had ten songs written by Mulkraj Bhakri which were composed to music by Husnlal-Bhagatram.

Here is the list of songs from this movie along with their status on the blog (wherever the songs have been posted earlier).

We can see from the above table that so far six songs from this movie have been posted on the blog.

Today’s song is a nice song sung by Lata Mangeshkar and only the audio of this song is available. Lyrics are by Mulkraj Bhakri and music is composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram.

Let us now listen to today’s song which grows upon the listener if it is listened to twice or thrice.
Lyrics for this song had also been sent by Prakashchandra earlier (for BTYC posts).

sau sau gham ne gheraa aa
ik dil meraa aa

gham ki kaali
badariyaa chhaayi ee

chhaaya chaaron oar andheraa
ik dil meraa aa
ik dil meraa
sau sau gham ne gheraa aa
ik dil meraa aa

Dear Avinash ji,

As will be evident to most, the tune is similar to बिगड़ी बनाने वाले by Suraiyya from “BADI BEHEN” (1949).

With warm regards

Thanks for reading the post and your comments thereof Sir ji.
Yes, I listened to the ‘Badi Bahan-1949’ song sung by Suraiyya. The tune sounds similar, obviously as the music director for both the movies is ‘Husnlal Bhagatram’. And both the songs also came in the same year 1949.

With Best Regards,
