Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -7 (1987)
—————————————————————
In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1987.

In this year ‘1987’ too we can see a decline in total number of movies where R.D. Burman had composed music, in comparison to the years 1984 and 1985 where he had composed music for 17 & 18 movies respectively.

In ‘1987’ R.D. Burman had composed music for nine movies as per details given below.

Sno Movie Title Director Lyricist Date of Censor Certificate Status on the Blog/Songs posted on the blog
1 Apne Apne Ramesh Bahl Gulshan Bawra 05.03.1987 0
2 Belagaam Naval Kishore Majrooh Sultanpuri 02.12.1987 0
3 Dacait Rahul Rawail Anand Bakshi 13.03.1987 1
4 Hifaazat Prayag Raj Anand Bakshi 14.09.1987 0
5 Ijaazat Gulzar Gulzar 31.08.1987 4
6 Inaam Dus Hazaar Jyotin Goel Majrooh Sultanpuri 18.02.1987 0
7 Itihaas V. Joshi Anand Bakshi 30.01.1987 0
8 Jaliaanwaalaa Baagh Balraj Tah Gulzar 30.01.1987 2
9 Mardonwaali Baat Brij Indeevar 31.12.1987 0

From the above table we can also see that only three movies out of nine movies where R.D. Burman had composed music are represented on the blog.

Today we introduce one more movie from ‘Pancham’s movies of ‘1987’. This movie is ‘Apne Apne’, which is alphabetically the first movie in the above table.

“Apne Apne-1987” was directed by Ramesh Behl for ‘Rose Movies’. Ramesh Behl was also the producer of this movie.

It had Jeetendra, Rekha, Karan Shah, Mandakini, with Satish Shah, Atlee Brar, Dan Dhanoa, Sushma Seth, Bina, Babli, Anjana, Ghanshyam, Chandu, Pandurang Boloor, Lata, Sheela, Leena, Mina, Tina, Rupa, Omi Chopra, Surendre, Rahi, Vasu, Iqbal, Rakesh, Reshma Aurora, Anthony, Prakash, and Kader Khan.
Hema Malini had a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was written by Aziz Qaisi. Sunder Shetty was the editor of this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 05.03.1987.

Lyrics for the songs of this movie were written by Gulshan Bawra. And music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, R.D. Burman had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Here is the list of songs of this movie.

SNo Song Title Singer
01 Apne apne se lage hamen Lata Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar
02 Idhar bhi tu, udhar bhi tu Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar
03 Toone kiya kya jaadoo R.D. Burman
04 Teri yaad mein neend nahin aayee Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar
05 Jo socha bhi na tha wo honewaala hai Asha Bhonsle
06 Gyaan daan hi sabse badaa hai Lata Mangeshkar, chorus

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. The song appears in two parts in the movie. Tthe first part is lip-synced by Rekha. We can see Jeetendra and others (including many child artists) in the picturisation of this part.

The second part is picturised on Mandakini, with others present in the picturisation of this song. After listening to this part-2, I can guess that the video clip for part-2 is including two stanzas on different situations. The last stanza plays in the background when Rekha is about to die in this movie. And we can see Hemal Malini, Jeetendra, Mandakini, Karan Shah, Bina present there.

This composition is a wonderful composition to listen to. Lyrics are by Gulshan Bawra and music is composed by R.D. Burman.

Let us now listen to today’s song.

Part-1

Aa aa aa aa aa aa
Aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

Gyaan ka daan hi
Sabse badaa hai
Jise koyi naa loote ae
Gyaan ka daan hi
Sabse badaa hai
Jise koyi naa loote ae
Gyaan ka rishtaa
Sachchaa rishtaa aa
Gyaan ka rishtaa
Sachchaa rishtaa
Baaki rishtey jhoothhe ae ae ae

Jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai
wo jag mein amar kehlaataa hai
Jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai

Aa aa aa
Aa aa aa aa
Aa aa
Aa aa
Aa aa aa

Agyaani ka jeevan jaise
Deep bina aa moti ke ae
Ghar ghar mein sab
Deep jalaayein
Gyaan ki hi jyoti se
Apne liye guru vidhaataa hai
jo Jag mein amar kehlaata hai
Apne liye guru vidhaataa hai
jo Jag mein amar kehlaata hai
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai
wo jag mein amar kehlaataa hai
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai

sab dharmon ka paalan keeje
manavtaa kehti hai
kisi ek ki nahin ye gangaa
sab ke liye behti hai
ye jal jeevan mehkaataa hai
aur man paavan ho jaata hai
ye jal jeevan mehkaataa hai
aur man paavan ho jaata hai
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai
wo jag mein amar kehlaataa hai
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai

Part-2
—————————————
Unka jeena kya jeena jo
Apne liye jiye hain
Ik dooje ke sukh dukh baante
Ik dooje ke liye hain
Jo auron ke kaam aata hai
Wo jeevan ke sukh paata hai
Jo o auron ke kaam aata hai
Wo jeevan ke sukh paata hai
Gyaan ka daan hi
Sabse badaa hai
Jise koyi naa loote ae
Gyaan ka rishtaa
Sachchaa rishtaa aa
Baaki rishtey jhoothhe ae ae ae
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai
wo jag mein amar kehlaataa hai
jo gyaan daan de jaataa hai

maali ke jaane se gulshan
soona ho jaayegaa
lekin har bahaar ka mausam
rang naye ae laayegaa
aata hai koyi
jaata hai yoon
waqt guzartaa jaata hai
koyi aata hai koyi jaata hai
yoon
waqt guzarta jaata hai
Gyaan ka daan hi
Sabse badaa hai
Jise koyi naa loote ae
Gyaan ka rishtaa
Sachchaa rishtaa aa
Baaki rishtey jhoothhe ae ae ae
Gyaan ka daan hi
Sabse badaa hai
Jise koyi naa loote ae ae

Thank you Avinashji, Atulji for bringing this movie to the blog
I remember that this was a movie that was in my wishlist but bcoz it released in the exam season i was not taken to see it (I think my dad went alone)
But I did manage to see a bit of it in later years, on satellite TV
It had Jeetendra playing husband to Hema in an unhappy marriage and Rekha played the girl whom he cudn’t marry due to family pressure. (One of the many standard formulas of those times). Karan Shah was Hema’s son and Mandakini was Rekha’s niece or ward
Then ibsaw the last scene where Rekha dies wishing Jeetendra all the best for his future. Hema played the typical haughty, rich lady who cudn’t stand a husband who was economically bellow her.
The movie was one where both of Jeetendra favourite heroines of the 80s were present but movie was not very successful in reviving his sagging career. Then slowly he made a transition into roles where he played father, elder brother etc to Govinda, Mithun, Sunny, SRK etc.
