Hullo Atuldom

“Saaheb” (1985) was a movie produced by Rupa K. Gandhi, Rajni A. Ganguly & R.M.Valia. It was directed by Anil Ganguly who had directed ‘Tapasya’, ‘Kora Kaagaz’, ‘Humkadam’ etc before “Saaheb”.

Readers may remember that all the movies that I have mentioned were family dramas with good music. Barring ‘Kora Kaagaz’ the other two had Rakhee as the central character who has to support her family. “Saaheb” also had Rakhee as a supportive bhabhi for Sunil Sharma whose nickname in the movie was Saaheb and that character was played by Anil Kapoor. Utpal Dutt played the patriarch of the Sharma family which consists of four sons- three of who are married, and two daughters- the youngest yet to be married. Saaheb addresses his father as “Royal Bengal Tiger”.

Saaheb, a football- goalkeeper, is always demotivated by his older brothers and bhabhis. They keep telling that when the whole team is running behind the ball, the goal keeper is cooling his heels at the goalpost. The oldest bhabhi (Rakhee) is the only one who understands him. When the father finds himself short of resources, at the time of his daughters’ wedding, Saaheb bails the family out specially when the older brothers try to bend the situation to their benefit. The family later comes to know that how Saaheb has managed to find the money and at what cost. The father also acknowledges that Saaheb is the real goalkeeper of the family.

Today is the 66th birthday of Anil Kapoor. He is touted as looking young and fit forever. He is a proud father of Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor and also a grandfather too.

We are revisiting Saaheb to wish Anil Kapoor on his birthday. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar, written by Anjaan and composed by Bappi Lahiri. It shows Anil Kapoor walking along a ground where young boys are practising football. He doesn’t show any sadness on his countenance about never being able to play the game again. He was too good in the movie which was critically acclaimed. The movie was one of the first to show what organ donation was all about and the paperwork and medical angles associated with it.

Song-Kya khabar kya pata (Saaheb)(1985) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anjaan, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Lyrics

kya khabar kya pata
kya khushi hai
gham hai kya
kya khabar kya pata
kya khushi hai
gham hai kya
leke aansoo jo hansi de
gham ke badle jo khushi de
raaz yeh jaana usi ne
zindagi kya hai zindagi
kya khabar kya pata
kya khushi hai gham hai kya

kal ki baaten bhool jaa
guzri raaten bhool ja
khwaab jo sach ho sake na
uski yaaden bhool ja aa
kal ki baaten bhool ja
guzri raaten bhool ja
khwaab jo sach ho sake na
uski yaaden bhool ja aa
jo na haare bebasi se
na kare shiqwa kisi se
raaz yeh jaana usi ne
zindagi kya hai zindagi
kya khabar kya pata
kya khushi hai
gham hai kya
leke aansoo jo hansi de
gham ke badle jo khushi de
raaz yeh jaana usi ne
zindagi kya hai zindagi ee
kya khabar kya pata
kya khushi hai gham hai kya

Nice post Peevesie’s Mom ji. This song was overdue on the blog. I was under the impression that this has already been posted. This song is frequently heard on radio in various programs along with one other duet song from this movie.
We wish a ‘ very happy birthday to Anil Kapoor’ !!!
Regards,

can you please help find the name of the actress who played Anil Kapoor’s younger sister. The older sister was played by Nandita Thakur.
I recall that the actress who played the younger sister was the girl who had played the little girl in Jaya Bhadhuri-Jeetendra starrer Parichay.

Like

Parichay film child star is Baby Pinky aka Baby Pinky Sachdeva(she acted in Naya din nayi raat, anaamika, jwaar bhata,Jadu tona,…)(Not to be confused with Disco dancer child artiste (another)baby pinky who later promoted as heroine in Vansh as Priyanka)(Imdb mixed up these 2 baby pinkys` with another actress Priyanka Upendra/Priyanka Trivedi, who also acted in Hindi,Bhojpuri,Bengali,Kannada movies)

Anil kapoor`s younger sister`s role(In Saaheb) was played by ALMA SACHDEVA(I am sure she was not there in Jeetendra`s Parichay)
