In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Heera Aur Patthar-1977’. I came across this movie while looking for songs of some other movie. The name of this movie doesn’t ring any bells for me and when I checked for its songs none of them seemed familiar to me. I do not remember any song associated with the name of this movie. May be this movie was a lesser known or less successful movie of its time. The movie has the pair of Shashi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi of the hit movie ‘Faqeeraa-1976’, but the pair failed to create the same success for the makers of “Heera Aur Patthar”.
“Heera Aur Patthar-1977” was directed by Vijay Bhatt for his home productions ‘Vijay Films International’. It was produced by Arun Bhatt and Kishore Vyas.
It had Ashok Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, with Asrani and Bindu, Narendranath, Jayshree T., supported by Bharat Bhushan, Chadrashekhar, Vatsala Deshmukh, Vandana Shastri, Pinchoo Kapoor, Raj Mehra, Asit Sen, Manorama, Ramesh Deo, Master Ratan, Kamal Deep, Moosa Kalim, Darshan, Sudhin Desai, and others.
The story of this movie was written by Arun Bhatt and screenplay of this movie was written by Ram Kelkar. Dialogues of this movie were written by Pandit Satyadev Dubey and additional dialogues were written by Moosa Kalim.
Editing of this movie was done by B. Prasad.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.05.1977.

Here is this brief about the movie ‘Heera Aur Patthar’-
Shankar loses his faith in God when his mother doesn’t recover from a fire that was set by a cruel and greedy zamindar, Vikram Singh. He takes Shankar’s father’s and uncle’s land. They both now carry pilgrims up to the temple on a doli. But Shankar refuses to visit the temple even when he grows up. He meets Gauri and starts climbing the temple steps daily to meet her. Shankar’s life is in danger. Who wants to kill him?
From the brief about this movie mentioned on IMDB it can also be added that Shankar (Shashi Kapoor) takes on his fight with the zamindar/s to free the poor peasants in the village from the clutches of the zamindar/s. In this fight he is ready to go to any extent and get succeeds in the end.
For information Shankar is played by Shashi Kapoor. Shankar’s father and uncle on screen are Bharat Bhushan and Chadrashekhar respectively. Gauri is played by Shabana Azmi. And we also have Ashok Kumar as kind hearted Dr. Anand and Bindu as Roopa Bai. So overall I think it could be a nice entertainment to watch this movie at least once. (I am going to try it in future ).
“Heera Aur Patthar” has six songs, equally distributed between Anjaan and Maya Govind, both penning three songs each.
Music for this movie was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar had sung the songs in this movie.
