Blog 10-Year Challenge (2013-2023) – Song No.56

On this date ten years ago (2 April 2013), eight songs were covered in the blog. Seven of them were from seven different movie while one song was a non film song. Here are the details:-

We observe that two movies (out of 7) whose songs were covered on this date ten years ago (on 2 april 2013) have since been YIPPEED. That leaves us with five unYIPPEED movies that re eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (2 april 2023).
One of the unYIPPEED movies has been taken up under BTYC earlier in the day.
Chronoologically the second oldest unYIPPEED movie of that date was “Milan Ki Raat”(1967). This movie was produced by Makin,Pratima(Protima),Yusuf & Prakash and directed by R Bhattacharya for Musical movies, Bombay. The movie had Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay, Prakash Thapa, Helen, Johnny Walker, Abhi Bhattacharya, Laxmi Chhaya, Jeevan Kala, Chand Usmani, S.K.Prem, Jankidas, Amar, Rirkoo, Moni Chatterji, Jerry, Mirza Musharraf, Master Ranu, Vijay Kumar, Shyama, Sulochana(Latkar), Shahid Bijnori, Paul Sharma, Ranoo, Rajan Kapoor etc in it.
“Milan Ki Raat”(1967) had five songs in it. Two songs have been covered so far.
Here is the third song from the movie. It is sung by Mukesh. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
The song is picturised as a poignant background song with sombre looking Sharmila Tagore visible, whereas Sanjay Khan is seen trying to pacify a disconsolate master Ranu. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Dear Mahesh ji pointed out with reference to the Mukesh Geet Kosh, that the film version and the 78 rpm version of this song are entirely different. However, the 78 rpm version song is not yet available anywhere online. His observation led me to track down the 78 rpm version of this song from my hard disk, and upload it on YT. The lyrics section below has also been updated with the lyrics of the 78 rpm version.

Many Thanks for this rare upload.
Interestingly, film soundtrack and the 78 rpm record version have two each entirely different stanzas. However, the mukhda remains the same.
Further, in the film version, there is a short song wherein the first stanza is again heard.
And then, one more Mukesh’s background song picturized and depicting the woes of an actress on screen.
In view of all the above, a very unique song indeed.

R. Bhattacharya- the director of this film- used to stay in Four Bungalows area of Andheri in Mumbai when I was studying in class 12. He had two daughters and his wife had just passed away when I went to their house (a small one room kitchen affair). It was the time when he was almost broke due to a few films failing.
His older daughter did journalism and was a journalist with a top magazine in Mumbai, before starting family life. Unfortunately she too is no more
The second daughter, my classmate and bench mate in class 12, went on to be a film maker after being an assistant to Prakash Mehra during Jaadugar and Zindagi ek Jua. She had also worked on the TV serial Dekh Bhai Dekh.
I lost contact with the family in the last few years
