I have been mentioning in my earlier write-ups that even though we are regularly adding songs from the yesteryear on the blog, there are still many hidden gems that need to be brought here on the blog. When one comes across such gems, one is surprised why such songs or such movies were still left unrepresented. We still have a vast treasure-trove that is yet to be un-earthed.
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Swaami Vivekanand-1955’.
This movie was launched on the blog on 14.10.2011 with its song ‘choor karo choor karo abhimaan ko mere choor karo’. This song remains the only song from the movie in the blog.. The movie even missed getting covered during its ‘blog ten-year challenge’ date.
Today, we present the second song from this movie here on the blog.
“Swaami Vivekanand-1955” was directed by Amar Mallick for ‘Amar Mallick Productions’. It was produced by Bharati Devi & Phani Malick.
This movie had Ajit Prakash, Bharati Devi, Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Suprava Mukherjee, Anuva Gupta, Uddalak Chatterjee and others.
‘Swaami Vivekanand-1955’ was passed by Censor Board on 17.02.1955.

SWAMI VIVEKANAND (1955), a Amar Malik Production film, it was produced by Bharati Devi and Phani Malik and directed by Amar Malik.
This film was made in Hindi and Bengali at the same time and for Hindi version the Dialogues were by Pandit Bhushan. The entire film was in pure Hindi and partly this was a minus point for the film. Even in Bengali, people complained that, very old and pure Bengali language was used.
I had seen this movie, as I was and am an admirer of this great soul.
The main role of S. Vivekananda was done by Ajit Prakash and his mother’s role was done by Bharati Devi. She had played a major role in Narendra’s life before he became Vivekanand. Ramkrishna Paramhans’s role was played by Manoranjan Bhattacharya.
In the film, major events of Vivekananda’s life were covered, like, his early years, meeting with Ramkrishna, his turn around to Bhakti marg, going to America, with help from Maharaja of Khetri, his famous speech at the Parliament of Religions, Chicago in 1893,visit to London, Bhagini Nivedita’s induction, few speeches and his Maha Nirvan on 4-7-1902.
There were 2 lyricists, Shankar Sen and Tandon Jodhpuri.
I feel it was not a movie for entertainment but for bringing Vivekananda’s life to common people to inspire them.
As mentioned above this movie has six songs. Three songs were written by Shankar Sen, two songs by Tandon Jodhpuri and one song is a traditional Surdas bhajan.
As per information given in HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) Talat Mahmood, Mohd Rafi, Hemant Kumar and Sandhya Mukherjee had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Today we listen to the second song from this movie. It is sung by Talat Mahmood.
Lyrics are by Shankar Sen and music is composed by R.C. Boral.
Only the audio of this song is available. I have not been able to note the correct words at a couple of places. I would request knowledgeable readers to please help to provide the correct words there.
