Mukesh and his Co-Singers –18
I begin this post with an appeal and a request to all the readers of the blog across the globe.
There is a film “Bheema Mera Haathi” released in the year 1973. Out of the 6 songs in the film, one is a duet of Mukesh with Hemlata titled “Hazar Dil Mein Hon Tho Aise Niklen Woh Armaan”. All my efforts to trace this duet have come to naught. So, if anyone has any information regarding the duet, kindly contact the editors or comment on the post.
I have tried with friends, SLBC and even the composer’s family members to no avail. It now appears to me that the songs were never released on records, and the film too remains unfindable.
In trying to trace any traces of songs from the film, I sent myself on a snipe hunt and obviously could not find the elephant in the room. Usage of the idioms is deliberate as the film title suggests that it was based on an elephant. 😊
Well, here is the report/observations of my snipe hunt.
There was a Malayalam film Aana Valarthiya Vanampadi released in 1959.
Its sequel was another Malayalam film Aana Valarthiya Vanampadiyude Makan released in 1971.
This 1971 film was also released in Tamil language in the same year and called Yaanai Valartha Vaanampadi Magan.
All these names are Latin and Greek to me.
The Hindi-dubbed version of this Malayalam film of 1971 was released in 1973 and named Bheema Mera Haathi. I understand, the Tamil and Hindi were to be released together, but Tamil version was released earlier due to financial crunches and then with its success, the Hindi version was released.
In all this drama, I suppose, someone forgot to release the Hindi songs on records.
Wait, there is more.
This Hindi version released in 1973 was Sridevi’s second film as a child artist after her debut in Rani Mera Naam, a year earlier. The film was co-directed by P Subramanyam and Cho Ramaswamy. I am not sure if the latter also acted in the film.
For the unversed, Cho Ramaswamy was multi-talented personality, and his wiki page is over here.
The film had Gemini Ganesan, Rajashree, Manorama, Vijaya Nirmala, Master Anand and Sridevi.
And of course, the Elephant.
I have written a lot about the movie whose songs are unavailable and is not the subject of this post.
Well, this post is full of uncertainties, incomplete information, mistaken identities etc. and will have multiple requests to knowledgeable readers to please contribute additional information.
Usually, I try to do in-depth research, but in this case, I was frustrated with lack of information and clarity on many counts. More on it later.
I had delayed this collaboration in the hope that I could fetch the duet from Bheema Mera Haathi from some source.
But it was not to be.
(This phrase, by the way, is often repeated in R K Narayan’s writings).
I hope I don’t bore readers with such digressions.
Anyway, coming to the main context, today’s post features Mukesh’s duets with Hemlata.
Her wiki page is over here.
As the details provided on the net are quite elaborative, I do not want to do any bio-writeup on her.
Instead, we will go for a ride again.
Many singers are well known for their one song. Such songs have become so famous that they are the first to appear in the mind when the artists are remembered.
Here is a sample and please note that it is just my opinion only.
| Singer | Movie (year) | |
|---|---|---|
| Uma Devi: | Afsaana likh rahi hoon | Dard (1947) |
| Mubarak Begum: | Kabhi tanahaaiyon mein yoon | Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961) |
| Kanan Devi: | Toofaan mail duniya ye duniya | Jawab (1942) |
| Sharda: | Titli udi ud jo chali | Suraj (1966) |
| Salma Agha: | Dil ke armaan aansuon mein beh gaye | Nikaah (1982) |
I see that I have inadvertently included only female singers. I could add more examples, but I donno where I am headed…😊
Similarly, Hemlata who has sung many songs is probably most famous for her title song in Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978).
In this film, Hemlata gave playback to Ranjeeta who played the role of Jennifer (Jenny).
I have already covered this film and its storyline being based on the novel Love Story novel by Erich Segal. While going through my own post, I was pleasantly surprised that I have also mentioned a totally unrelated novel called The Day After Tomorrow by Allam Folsom.
Here is the post.
I will try to write more on Allan Folsom novel in my next post though it has absolutely nothing to do with Indian films or songs.
Coming to the main essence of this post, following table provides the details of the collaboration of Mukesh and Hemlata in HFM :-
| S. No | Name of the Song | Movie (Year of release) | Lyricist | Music Director |

There are 8 songs in all.
• 4 posted on the blog.
• 1 unavailable
• 1 NFS as the film remained unreleased.
The posted songs are all familiar to readers. I suppose 2 remains the most famous duet of the duo.
In this post, I take up song no 7 from Aarohi (1982). Since Mukesh passed away in 1976, it is quite evident that this film took a long time to get released. One source says it was a romantic drama starring Kishore Kapoor, Vipin Kapoor, and Rama Vij. IMDB says Rakesh Pandey was also part of the cast. The music was composed by duo Anand Sagar-Kiran and the songs were written by Bharat Vyas. There is not much information on this film but 4 songs of Mukesh are available for listening. One with Hemlata is being taken up today, 2 are duets with Bela Saaver and one is a solo. (I request the editors to reserve all the 3 remaining songs for self).
Earlier in the post, I had said that this post is full of incomplete information. I was talking about this film Aarohi (1982) which makes its debut on the blog. Following are the details that I seek from knowledge readers.
• Is Anand Sagar, the son of Ramanand Sagar one of the composers in this film?
• If yes, did he also compose independently and which films?
• Did he compose any other film with Kiran and who is this Kiran?
• Do we have more details on Bela Saaver as there are lot of same-name (Bela) confusions and limited information is available on this singer?
• Are there more details on this much delayed film Aarohi (1982)?
• Do we have more information on the unreleased film Baapu Ka Sapna.
• Last, but not the least, will we be able to hear the duet from Bheema Mera Haathi?
I have not checked the blog properly for any answers to some of the questions above as the post took too long to finish and I am now very much exhausted.
I pray that I do not have to write another post with so many queries. 😊
Let’s now hear this duet of Mukesh with the sweet voice of Hemlata.

Lyrics
Tujhko fursat se vidhaata ne rachaa
hriday tujhko kya diya hai Raam ne
chaand chaahe mujhse mukhda pher le
tu rahee baithhee nazar ke saamne ae
tujhko fursat se vidhaata ne rachaa
chaand to chhaayaa hai tere rang kee
shaayaron kee daad paa ke tan gaya
jis mein nirkha toone apne roop ko
wo tera darpan hee chanda ban gaya
bin pilaaye hee mujhe bahka diya aa
teree ankhiyon ke ghulaabee jaam ne ae
tujhko fursat se vidhaata ne racha
tum ho priytam mere man ke devta
main tumhaare in charan kee dhool hoon
tum ho pooja
tum meree aaraadhna aa
main tumhaaree saadhna kee phool hoon
gir naheen sakta koi manjhdhaar mein aen
tum badho jiskee kalaai thhaamne
tujhko fursat se vidhaata ne racha
