Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part IV

(Actresses whose name begin with the letter D)

In the first three episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first three letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. They we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.

The exercise of finding a “new” actress whose name begins with a particular letter is being increasingly difficult. The three “new” actresses who made their debuts in the blog (as far as lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is concerned) were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya and Chandrakala.

In this episode, we arrive at the letter D. There are only five actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.

Here are their details in the format that we have set up for this series:-

Name of ActressAsha Bhonsle Song lip synced by the actressName of movie (year)Remarks
Actresses whose names begin with “D”
Durga KhoteAchche samay pe tum aaye Krishna (Bidaai)Bidaai (1974)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Durga Khote in the blog
Daisy IraniTinke pe tinka chhutti ke din kaa (Zameen Ke Taare)Zameen Ke Taare (1960)8 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Daisy Irani are available in the blog
Deepti NavalMujhko bhi raadha bana le nandlaal (Ankahee)Ankahi (1985)4 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Deepti Naval are available in the blog
Dimple KapadiaJaane do naa paas aao naa (Saagar)Saagar (1985)7 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Dimple Kapadia are available in the blog
Deepa RaniJab kabhee mud ke dekhta hoon main (Hip Hip Hurray)Hip Hip Hurray (1984)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Deepa Rani in the blog

We observe that D is a letter that has given us very few actresses in Hindi movies.

I wondered if there are were any other actresses whose names begin with D and who may have sung in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. Names of Dipika Chikhiliya, Deepa Sahi occured to my mind. I searched hard but could not locate any Asha Bhonsle song on them. I thought that I should seek help from our knowledgeable readers. That is how I was helped in finding the actress for the previous episode of this series.

Just when I was despairing, the name of Divya Bharti flashed in my mind. I was doubtful that she may have sung in Asha Bhonsle’s voice, because to my mind it appears that Sadhana Sargam used to sing for her. In the blog, we have two Divya Bharti songs both sung by Sadhana Sargam, including the very popular song of “Vishwatma”(1992) viz Saat samundar paarmain tere peechee peechhe aa gayee.

When I searched, I hit the jackpot. It turns out that Asha Bhonsle has sung for Divya Bharti in two movies, and both these movies are as yet unrepresented in the blog.

So here is a new actress whose name begins with D lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. This song is from a popular song of its time namely “Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992). For quite some time I thought that I had watched this movie. But later I realised that I was confusing this movie with “Aashiqui”(1992) that I had watched and told everyone that the movie only had good songs and the story was bakwaas. I can pass same judgement on other movies of that era, including “Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992). Those days there were movies with similar titles and of the same genre of love stories that had similar stories. One thing that they had in common was music by Nadeem Shrawan. All songs of these movies had similar sounding music, typically sung by Kumar Sanu. All these songs were very popular. I did not like the stories of these movie because I found these stories unrealistic and silly.

“Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992) was produced by Mukesh Duggal and directed by Lawrence D’souza. The movie had Prithvi, Divya Bharti, Sanam, Laxmikant Berde, Satyen Kappu, Suresh Oberoi, Kishore Bhanushali, Subiraj, Shashi Kiran, Shashi Kumar, Billoo etc in it.

“Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992) had eight songs in it.

Here is this song from “Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992). It is sung by Kumar Sanu and Asha Bhonsle. Madan Pal is the lyricist.

The song is picturised on Divya Bharti and Prithvi. For quite some time I thought that this song was picturised on Divya Bharti and a grown up Master Raju. But I was wrong. I found that this person who to my mind looked like a grown up version of Master Raju is someone called Prithvi.

So here is this song, lip synced by Divya Bharti in the voice of Asha Bhonsle.

Here I must mention that Mr Sadanand Kamath jee did some deep research and managed to locate Asha Bhonsle’s songs for Dipika Chikhaliya, Divya Dutta and even Dipti Bhatnagar. I thank him for his deep research work in which he managed to find these songs which I was unable to locate.

If one thought that the letter D was challenging, the next letter E is the ultimate challenge. Only two actresses (quite obscure ones too) whose names begin with E have lip synced in the voice of Asha Bhonsle in the blog. I invite our readers to guess who these two actresses could be. I also request our readers to suggest names of actresses with letter E who may have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. This letter E to my mind is going to be one that will challenge our resourcefulness to the hilt. If our readers come up with the name of an eligible actress, that would be a feat of great research. I on my part, have already done my research and will come up with the result of my research, in the form of an unlikely name to go with the letter E.

For now, let us enjoy this song from “Dil Ka Kya Kasoor”(1992). The movie makes its debut in the blog with this song.

Atul ji,

Asha Bhosle sings for Ekta for the song, ‘unko dekha to bas’ in the film, ‘Naamcheen’ (1991). Ekta is married to Mohnish Bahl.

Nice to see the episode ‘D’ in the Asha Bhosle series.

The song achhe samai pe tum aaye although picturised on Durga Khote, it is a background song. There is a more appropriate song on the blog, where Asha Bhosle sings and Durga Khote moves her lips and that is Meri baari re kaahe ko bhoole banwaari from Chingaari (1971).

Same problem is also shared by jab kabhi mood ke, which although quite a lovely song, is a background song.

Other actresses with a name starting with D, who I could find and have lip synched to Asha Bhosle’s song are:
Dia Mirza with the song Baahon Mein Nahin Rehna from the film Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai

Dipshikkha Nagppal with the song Solah Baras Intezaar Kar Liya from the movie Agniputra (2000)

Disco Shanti with the song Bichhwa Ne Das Liya from the film Police Public (1990)

Divya Dutta with the song Rajai Odh Ke from the movie Inth Ka Jawaab Paththar [2002]

And then there is a major actor for whom Asha Bhosle has sung and it is none other than Dara Singh. Although it is Shamshad Begum who mostly gave the playback for Dara in Drag, here it is Asha Bhosle. The song is sabse ho aalaa meri jaan from the film The Killers (1969).

I am very happy that Sadanand Kamathji has found an Asha Bhosle song for an actress, whose name starts with an ‘E’. I couldn’t find any. Even for ‘F’, I only have Faryal and Farida Jalal as yet.

Thank you for your kind words, dear Atul.

I’ve been enjoying your recent posts on the alphabetical series on Asha Bhosle songs and the discussions here. Since you were kind enough to thank me for the Name of the actresses and their respective Songs, I suggested in my recent comments, I wondered whether you might be interested if I send you postings on the suggested songs. If so, I’d be happy to send you the lyrics with information to the respective actress or the song.
I have seen that there are other series going on Asha Bhosle’s lesser known songs. I hope I am not encroaching on anybody’s area with my suggestion.

The fact that this series is being followed by people keenly and they are suggesting names of actresses as well as songs is of great help to me. And help in any form is greatly appreciated.

Asha Bhonsle is the most prolific playback singer among all. That is the reason why some formal and informal series of her songs are going on it the blog. In future we could well thinkof similar series with other prolific singers. It will be an interesting and new way of looking at the songs of playback singers.
