(Lyricist Kavi Pradeep-71)

‘Hari Darshan-1972’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’. It was passed by Censor Board on 24.08.1972. The cast of this movie included Randhawa, B. Saroja Devi, Abhi Bhattacharya, Shahu Modak, Asit Sen, Sujata, Kalpana Deewan, Padma Rani, Sanjana, Sadhna Khote, Sarla, Anwari, Rekha Chouhan, Babu Raje, Himmat Singh Chouhan, Ram Rasila, Satyajit, Jr. Mehmood, Baby Rupa, and others. Dara Singh, Jayshree Gadkar, and Arvind Trivedi make special appearance in this movie.

This mythological movie is mainly about Bhakt Prahlad and his devotion towards Lord Vishnu i.e. ‘Hari’. And it also covers in brief the story of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

‘Hari Darshan-1972’ has tens songs written by Kavi Pradeep and its music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Nine songs from this movie (including one triple version song) have already been posted on this blog in the past. Today I am presenting the tenth and final song from this movie.

The background situation for the today’s song is like this.

After Hiranyaksha drags earth to the bottom of the sea Lord Vishnu takes the form of a Boar to rescue the earth. He saves the earth by killing the demon Hiranyaksha. Enraged by his brother’s killing the demon king Hiranyakashyap vows to take revenge for his brother’s killing by Vishnu. However, just when he is on the verge of taking his oath of destroying and killing Vishnu, Naradmuni reaches there to console and mock him. He suggests Hiranyakashyap to undergo a ‘kathhor tap’ and please Lord Brahma and secure boons from Lord Brahma and would make his almost invincible. On learning about Hiranyakashyap’s ‘tap’ Indra calls urgent meeting with Agnee, Varun dev and Vayu dev and asks them to disturb the ‘tap’ of Hiranyakashyap – ‘is ki tapashcharyaa bhang karo’ by hook or crook. However, Hiranyakashyap succeeds in his severe and hard penance. Indra fails to prevent him and finally Brahma dev is pleased. Hiranyakashyap asks Brahma to bless him with ‘immortality’ so that nobody on this earth and even gods can kill him. Brahma asks him to seek some other boons instead. This is what Hiranyakashyap demands from Brahma.
(in his own words in the movie 😊 )

‘hamaari mrityu naa devta se ho naa daanav se naa pashu se ho naa maanav se naa panchhi se ho naa kit se naa astra naa shastra se naa mantra se naa tantar se naa prithvi pe naa aakaash mein naa aag mein naa paanee mein naa din mein hon naa raat mein naa ghar ke bheetar ho naa ghar ke baahar’

‘Tathaastu!!!’ – Brahma grants him all that he asks for …

While Hiranyakashyap is overjoyed ‘maan lo ham amar ho gaye’, his sister Holika tells him that the boons given by Brahma are not enough and he should seek ‘immortality’ from Lord Shiva by doing ‘mahaa-rudra’ tap.

ham amar honge, aur amar hone ka vardaan bhole shankar hee de sakte hain

Hiranyakashyap sets out for ‘Mahaa-Rudra’ tap. On the other side Indra in his darbaar plans and asks Brihaspati Rishi to do a trick to prevent Hiranyakashyap from this ‘Mahaa-Rudra’ tap. And he plans to abduct the wife of Hiranyakashyap i.e. queen Kayadhu. Indra in disguise of Hiranyakashyap reaches his palace telling Kayadhu that “mahaa dev itney prasanna ho gaye kee unhoney swarg bhee de diyaa aur ye swarg kaa vimaan bhee. Kayadhu breaks him the good news that she is pregnant. However she sets with him in the ‘vimaan’. On the way Indra discloses his identity and Kayadhu tries to escape. At this juncture dev rishi Naradmuni intervenes and advises Indra to leave her (and leave it to ‘Hari ichhaa’). Naradmuni then takes her to an ‘aashram’ where the atmosphere is ‘nirmal’ and the world is a ‘ bholaa bhaalaa sansaar’ and people in the aashram are busy praising Hari and singing his ‘leelaa’. Kayadhu asks what they are singing about and whom they are praising, what is his story?

shree hari kee .. jiskaa aadi naheen ant naheen, aisi leelaa ka bhi koyi ant nahin’ Naradmuni tells her. … Kayadhu expresses her intention ‘shree hari kee aparampaar leelaa main sun’naa chaahtee hoon’.

It is at this juncture that the song under discussion takes place as a part of the ‘divine manipulation to imbibe the ‘garbh-sanskaar’ on the yet to born child of Kayadhu, whose birth takes place in the ‘aashram’.

B. Saroja Devi, Babu Raje and many others are visible in the picturisation. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh in their ‘baal-roop’ are shown as singing this song of ‘existence of the god’ everywhere. I am unable to identify the three child artistes who lip-sync the song.

As the songs ends Kayadhu falls asleep. The next morning the attendant of Kayadhu breaks the news of the birth of a male-child to Naradmuni. He also tells Naradmuni that the child chanted ‘shree hari, shree hari’. Naradmuni blesses the child and since he is born at sunrise and as the first rays of the sun entered the place ‘the first-pratham ‘ahlaa’ of the morning he names him Pralhad.

This movie had made its debut on this blog on 02.04.2015 with its’ song ‘suno re pyaare bhaai…’. This song ‘suno re pyaare bhaai and couple of other songs from this movie are of great nostalgic value to me as I grew up while listening to these songs and these songs have left a deep impression on my mind.

However the songs of this movie failed to find any place in annual list of Binaca Geetmala in 1972 and 1973.

This song, the tenth and final song from this movie, is sung by Sushma Shreshtha, Kamal Barot, Hemlata and chorus.

Let us now listen to this less heard song whichis penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

With this song all the songs of‘Hari Darshan-1972’ have been covered on the blog. The movie thus joins the list of movies that are YIPPEED on the blog.
