Today (15 august 2026) is the 80th Independence day of India.
When I was a young school going kid in late 1960s and early 1970s, India celebrated 20 odd years of Independence. Now We are celebrating 80th Independence day !
I have noticed that Independence day and republic day tend to become like the festival of Holi. Like in that festival, people feel the most enthusiastic in the first half of the day. By afternoon the patriotic feel begins to wear off. On the other hand I feel bullish about India on every day of the year. My bullishness is based on the progress that India has made in various fields over the years.
When I look back from my school days and compare that to the present, we have come a long way in many fields. It would be a good idea to give an overview of our progress over the years in various fields after Indian independence. But that would be a big exercise and that would take considerable time and research. I propose to make this a series of articles. In each post of this series, I will take one topic. In the first part of this series, I will take Indian progress in the field of Electricity from Independence onwards. This will be a very interesting and eye opening article for readers.
On the occasion of 80th Independence day today, I prsent this inspirational and goosebump raising rousing song from “Bose the Forgotten Hero”(2004). The title of the movie is incorrect by the way. To my mind, Bose is an unforgettable hero of our Independence day. He was the person who should get the most credit for making the Britishers unnerved because they realised that they could no longer count on Indian military personnels loyalty towards them, a fact that had enabled them to rule India with an iron fist till that time.
Vijay Prakash is credited as the singer, though the song sounds like a chorus song. Javed Akhtar is the lyricist. Music is composed by A R Rahman.
I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy 80th Independence day of India.
