After the letter B, I come to the letter D. Atul jee’s post on letter D with the list of actresses whose name begin with D and have lip-synced to Asha Bhosle’s songs is here. For the letter C please refer to this.
I am attempting to send in the lyrics of the songs of other actresses, whose name start with D and are not featured on this blog. Just like the attempts with the previous letters and with the coming ones this also won’t be an exhaustive list. These are only just names, which I could remember or find. In that sense Dara Singh, who will be featured today, is an anomaly, since he is an actor and not an actress, but he has lip-synced to an Asha Bhosle song. Thus, he has the right to be featured here. Dara Singh has not only moved his lips to an Asha Bhosle song but also to the voices of Shamshad Begum and Kamal Barot. Naturally he featured in all these songs in drag, which goes to show that he was comfortable in his masculinity.
The first song of his in drag is patli kamar naazuk umar from Lutera (1965) in Shamshad Begum’s voice. The second Dara Singh in drag song is haaye mere dil pe from The Thief of Baghdad (1969) in Kamal Barot’s voice. The third song is also from 1969 from the movie The Killers aka Ham Sab Qaatil Hain. This is the subject of today’s post, since Asha Bhosle gives playback to Dara Singh here.
Today’s song builds a contrast to the other two Dara in drag songs. In the first two songs he is in disguise to enter enemy territory, but in today’s song he is subject of fantasy and intoxication of the character Ghasitaram (Maruti). Ghasitaram idolizes Dara Singh to such an extent that when his wannabe girlfriend feeds him sweets laced with ganja, he fantasizes this song with Dara Singh.
Dara Singh was born in 1928 in Dharmuchuk village of Punjab. He later moved to Singapur in search of a job, where his interest in wrestling started. Soon he won many national and international titles. His first entry into the world of movies was in a dream sequence in the movie Pehli Jhalak (1954). In that scene he is shown wrestling with Om Prakash and Begum Para plays the referee.
His first movie as a leading man was in King Kong (1962). His movies must have done good business, because after that he had 8-10 releases every year till the end of the 60s. His roles in these movies were in sync with his image as of an action hero. His roles were that of an action hero in thrillers, fantasy movies, historicals or devotional. Whichever role he did, he always came through as a good-natured man.
Today’s movie is The Killers aka Hum Sab Qaatil Hain. Both titles are featured in the film. 4 songs out of 6 are covered on this blog. This would be the 5th song. Dara Singh plays the character of Agent Q and Helen plays his heroine. Sheikh Mukhtar plays the villain and Ajit also plays a prominent role in the film. The song featured today is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhosle under the baton of O. P. Nayyar. The lyrics are by S. H. Bihari. The song is filmed on Maruti and Dara Singh moving their lips to Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhosle respectively.

na maaro yoon tadpaa ke
kabhee to dil mein aa ke

kabhee to dil mein aa ke ae ae
ban ke raho jee mehmaa…n

meree wafaayein meherbaa…n
sabse ho aalaa meree jaa…n
ik baar kar lo hamse
pyaar kaa waadaa
chaahenge tum ko
apnee jaan se zyaadaa
ik baar kar lo hamse
pyaar kaa waadaa
chaahenge tum ko
apnee jaan se zyaadaa
tumhaaree har khwaahish par
mitaa den khud ko dilbar
tumhaaree har khwaahish par
mitaa den khud ko dilbar
dil kaa yahee hai armaa…n
sabse ho aalaa meree jaa…n
jalwaa niraalaa qurbaa…n
apnaaa banaa ke dekho
dil mein basaa ke dekho
meree wafaayein meherbaa…n
sabse ho aalaa meri jaa…n
jalwaa niraalaa qurbaa…n
apnaa banaa ke dekho
dil mein basaa ke dekho
meree wafaayein meherbaa…n
sabse ho aalaa meree jaa…n

Interesting post. It is worthwhile to see if there are any other male actors in this category.
