Hullo to all followers of this Blog

Navaratri ki mangal parv ki sabhi ko shubh kaamnayein🙏🏻🙏🏻

11th October – is Ashwin maas, Shukla Paksha, Pratipada; the date when the devotes do Ghatasthapana, and Sharadiya Navratri begins. It is the period when people in Western India begin their evenings, in Sarvajanik Mandals, with daily aarthis to Ambe Mata & follow them up with Garba & Dandiya. Nine nights of dancing and revelry. This is special for Gujarat & Maharashtra.

In many parts of North India, the nine day festival has revelry with staging of The Ram-Leela as their integral part. Ram Leela means story of Lord Rama complete with Ram-Ravana Yudh (war) and Ravan Vadh happening on the ninth day.

Eastern India celebrates these nine days as Durga Puja, but with the sthapana of the goddess on the 6th (shashti) day. The idol of the Mother Goddess is installed in homes and pandals, along with those of her sons Ganesh & Kartik. The idols of Maa Saraswati & Maa Lakshmi are also installed & worshipped.

South India worships the Goddess in the form of Durga, Lakshmi & Saraswati during the festival. Beautiful dolls of gods, goddesses, demi-gods, and various symbols of daily- life are setup in tastefully decorated stands that are arranged in Stair format. This arrangement is called ‘Bomma Kolu’ (or Golu depending on your mother tongue). ‘Bomma’ means DOLLS. There are special offerings, poojas, archanas, bhajans and BHOJANS too (going by the name ‘Bhog’) irrespective of the region of the country.

As we can see, Navaratri is essentially celebrated by worshipping the Devi Maas (Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati) of Shakthi, Vidya and Aishwarya (prosperity) all over the country along with Lord Krishna’s Raas Leela (in Western India’s Garba) & Lord Rama’s victory over Ravan.

Since, I spoke of Ram-Leela, let us have a song that highlights the role of Ram-Bhakta Hanuman in Ramayan. The song speaks of how Hanuman lifted the whole mountain when he couldn’t identify the Sanjeevni herb. Hanuman was instrumental in uniting Goddess Sita with Lord Rama after helping Rama overcome Ravan. The song is in the voice of Shabbir Kumar, written by Indeevar and composed by Anu Malik. It is from the 1989 release ‘Toofan’ which was produced by Manmohan Desai and directed by his son Ketan Desai.

“Toofan” had Amitabh Bachchan leading a cast comprising of Amrita Singh, Meenakshi Seshadri, Zarina Wahab, Farooq Shiekh, and Pran. Kamal Kapoor, Goga Kapoor, Raza Murad, Mahesh Anand, Sudhir Dalvi, Sushma Seth etc were in supporting cast. Ramesh Deo & Bharat Bhushan were in guest appearances.

Manmohan Desai had cast Amitabh Bachchan in a double role in this film; this was the last time they worked together. This is one Amitabh Bachchan -Manmohan Desai film that was only an average grosser at the box-office. The film was the story of twins separated at birth, but not by any earth-shaking tragedy. One of the twin is handed over to a friend by the child’s father (Pran) to his friend (Ramesh Deo) as the latter’s wife has given birth to a still-born. The children grow up, one of which has superpowers and is an avid follower of Lord Hanuman. The other character was that of a meek magician who aspires to perform an escape trick that had claimed the life of his street magician (foster) father.

There is a story of inspector Hanuman Prasad Singh being falsely implicated by the corrupt Assistant Commissioner of Police Sharma (Kamal Kapoor) and Daku Shaitan Singh (Goga Kapoor) for stealing huge number of gold bars (also forming the reason for revenge etc). When Hanuman attempts to clear his name by bringing the real culprits to justice he is killed by Shaitan Singh. When his son hears of his death he goes to a temple of Bhagwan Shri Hanuman and pleads to him only to receive a boon with immense strength to fight for people who are subjected to injustice at the hands of tyrants. That leads us to today’s song.

With this song we will be wishing the hero of the film Shri Amitabh Bachchan on his birthday. He has been the favourite of the Hindi film lovers since the 1970s, the world over. He has also made fleeting appearances in Malayalam, Tamil & (if I am not wrong) Telugu & Kannada films too. Plus, he has made guest appearances in films like ‘English Vinglish’, ‘Kaun Jeeta Kaun Haara’, ‘Garam Masala’ and many more. For films like ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Lagaan’ etc. his was the voice that was used to introduce the film. His voice is his trademark, a voice that was, once said to be unsuitable for Radio (going by what I have read on the internet). He has tried his hand at singing for his characters, though he himself is not sure that he sounds good singing (he has said this at many places).

Happy Birthday to Shri Amitabh Bachchan!! Navaratri ki Shubh Kaamnayein 🙏🏻🙏🏻
