Today is 11 may 2020. In my opinion, 11 may is one of the most important dates in the history of modern India. It is on this date that India threw away the self imposed shackles of being an apologetic, suffering from inferiority complex, indecisive and weak nation which was being regarded as a pushover by one and all. Even tiny countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were beginning to mess with India with impunity.

Today’s song is from Dolti Naiya-1950. This film was made by Shaan E Hind Pictures, Bombay. It had music by Pt.Ram Prasad Sharma. The film’s 10 songs were written by a record number of 8 Lyricists and were sung also by 8 singers. In those days, it must have been a record, I guess. The cast of the film was Amarnath, Nigar Sultana, Shyama Dulari, Veena Kohli, Cuckoo, Bhudo Advani, Mukri, Mirza Musharraf, Munshi Munakka and others.

Today (7 may 2020) is the 159th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore (7 May 1861- 7 August 1941).
Everyone knows a lot about Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. He was not just a Nobel Prize winning poet, his acccomplishments, achievements and influence go much more farther than that. Curiously, his influence on our life is often subtle and goes unnoticed. But it is very much there.
He has influenced Indian movies, including Hindi movies as well. He was in fact the person writing the national anthem of India (and subsequently Bangladesh as well). The national anthem of India was already included in a Hindi movie called “Hamraahi”(1945) beore it could become national anthem. So, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore got credited as a lyricist and music director in this Hindi movie posthumously, but before India could achieve her independence.
