Today 4th October’2025 is the 74th birthday of Singer and actor Shailendra Singh. He was born on 4th October’1952 in Mumbai (Bombay then). Most of us are aware that Shailendra Singh made his debut as a singer with the movie ‘Bobby’ in ‘1973’ which was produced and directed by the great showman of Hindi Cinema Raj Kapoor.
The songs of ‘Bobby’ became very popular then and Shailendra Singh was nominated for the ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ for the song ‘main shaayar to nahin’. But the he didn’t win for that. He got his first acting break for the movie ‘Do Jaasoos – 1975’. (Later on, he acted in his father’s home production ‘Agreement-1980’, and he had done guest appearance in ‘Naukar-1979’ and Mehmood’s – ‘Janta Hawaldar-1979’. Hullo Atuldom
Wishing all the followers of the blog a Happy Dassehra. Happy Vijayadashmi. A day which is the culmination of the Sharada Navaratri. Navaratri means nine nights & Vijayadashmi is the 10th day when all the festivities reach a finale.
Much of North India would have had Raam-Leela as part of the festivities & we will witness Ravan-Dahan on the 10th day.
In West India we have the Devi installed in the form of Ambemaa with Aarthis, Garba & Dandiya forming the part of celebrations. Recently, I learnt that the Dandiya-sticks are representative of the weapons that were used by Ambemaa (Durga Maa) in her battle against the Rakshasaa “Mahishasura”.

Today’s song is from a very old film, His Highness-1937.
The film was made by Prakash Pictures, Bombay, who were intomaking B and C grade stunt and costume films, till they made Mythological films, starting with ” Bharat Milap”-1942 and their luck changed. This film, based on a Ramayana story became a Hit and Prakash Pictures found a Gold Mine !. They made another film on Ramayana – Ram-Rajya-1943 and this became a blockbuster, breaking many records all over India. The pair of Prem Adib as Ram and Shobhana Samarth as Seeta became All India famous and Prakash changed their production stance. They started making social and religious films which made them a successful film company.
The film His Highness-1937 was a Costume film. It had nothing new in the story except that along with the human star cast it also used animals like Dogs (Tiger and Tommy) and a Horse (Bahadur), which made some difference. Hitherto only the Wadia Movietone had used different types of animals in their stunt films. The film was directed by Balwant Bhatt. He was the elder brother of director Nanabhai Bhatt.

Today’s song is from an obscure film of the Golden Era – Sahil-1959.
Personally, I had never heard of this film. Though after Tumsa Nahi Dekha-1957, Shammi Kapoor had changed his looks – by removing his mustache, which never suited him – and style of acting, somehow this film never appealed to the viewers. I don’t even remember when it was in the theatres ! While going through the HFGK, I found the reason. It seems the film was made in 1955/56 and even the songs were recorded in 1954/55. For unknown reasons the film was censored on 8-4-1959 and was finally released in October 1959.
Since this film belonged to the period of Shammi Kapoor’s old style- with mustache – and by 1959-60 he was on a success ride, no one wanted to see this film. As such there was nothing notable in this film. The story was weak, the starcast was ordinary and the songs were not good enough to attract the audience. So the film flopped and disappeared from the theatres quickly.
