Today’s song is from a film called PARINAY-74, with music from a very talented Music Director- JAIDEV.
Now, I see some eyebrows raised,wondering why and how I have chosen a song from the 70s, because I generally talk about Films and Songs of 30s to 60s period only. But let me assure you that everything was not lost even after 1970. One could always find wonderful melodies here and there. Of course,the flow of such melodies had slowed down to a trickle,but still there were some sparks to be seen off and on.

In the Hindu mythology, Gandharvas are stated to be the male heavenly spirit and in the context of music, the term is used for a highly skilled vocalist. Maharashtra had the privilege of having four ‘Gandharvas’. First, Sawai Gandharva (real name : Rambahu Kundgolkar – 19/01/1886 – 12/09/1952). He was a popular Hindustani classical vocalist and Marathi stage actor-singer. He was the first disciple of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan of Kirana gharana. One of the disciples of Sawai Gandharva was Pandit Bhimsen Joshi who later started the annual Sawai Gandharva Festival at Pune in the memory of his guru.

There are two types of films, for which sure shot captive audience are readily available anytime. They are-
1. Religious or mythological films and
2. Tear jerkers or films depicting extreme pitiable conditions of women, like, for example- Aurat teri yehi kahani, Bhabhi or bhabhi ki choodiyan etc.
Some producers play smart and combine the two types of movies, like Jai Santoshi Maa or Krishna Sudama or Solah Somvar Vrat etc.

Ae ri main to prem deewaani

When I saw the lyrics of this song from “Jogan” (1950), I thought that this song was discussed long back, but when I checked the list of songs of “Jogan” (1950) appearing in the blog, this song was missing much to my surprise. Then I realised that the song that I was confusing it with was the song Ae ri main to prem deewaani mera dard na jaane koye from “Naubahaar” (1952).

“Neelkamal” (1947) was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma. The movie had Raj Kapoor and Madhubala in lead roles. The movie also had Begam Para, Nazira, Rajendra, Shanta Kumari, Baby Indira, Kumar Sahu , Pesi patel, Subhashini etc in it.
