“Zakhmee” (1975) had quite a few wonderful songs. For long I thought that these songs were composed by R D Burman. It was much later that I realised that this movie in fact was the debut movie of Bappi Lahiri as a music director.

Bollywood movies of 1970s typically had a “disguise” song where the hero or heroine would enter the heavy security villain’s den in disguise. Their disguise would always be as the lead dancer (s) of the music troupe that was supposed to entertain the guests of the villain.

Aao aao jaane jahaan

Few people have heard the name of the movie and few people have heard this song. But this song “aao aao jaane jahaan” quickly grows up upon its listeners. I listened to this song from “Gomti Ke Kinnare” (1972) yesterday for the first time. During the first hearing, I wondered what the fuss was all about, but after listeneing to it a second time, I was hooked.

It is a very long song, which is one second short of 10 minutes long. And the song is so nice to listen to that these 9:55 minutes pass in a trice. Initially Asha Bhonsle sings the song and towards the second half of the song, Kishore Kumar makes a cameo appearance.

This is a nice timepass song from 1981. The movie is called “Daulat” and this song is a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and is picturised on Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman.

There were talented music directors in Bollywood who failed to get enough opportunities to show their worth. Ganesh, the younger brother of Pyarelal ( of Laxmikant Pyarelal fame) was one such talent. The few opportunities that he got as music directors saw him give us a glimpse of his talent, but unfortunately his movies flopped taking the songs in their wake.
