I think I will not be entirely wrong if I say that one of the reasons songs appeal to all of us is not just because of the song itself. This may be true for a large majority of songs but I am sure each one of us has his or her own bouquet of songs that are special mainly of memories these songs represent.

This movie has a rather prosaic title, viz “Mera Ghar Mere Bachche” (1960) and the actors of this movie are not all that well known. In fact the picturisation of this song had me confused. This song is a duet and the gentleman in the picturisation looked like he was apeing N T Ramarao, the telugu movie superstar of the time, whereas the lady looked like an aspiring body double of Vyjyanti Mala. Wow, what a song ! I have listened to this song many a times even though I did not have an inkling about which movie this song was from, or even who the singers were. I thought that Mukesh and Lata were the singers. But I find now that the female voice is Suman Kalyanpur. I think Suman Kalyanpur has sung similar number of songs as Mukesh and she had a Mukesh like midas touch too. A large number of her songs have gone on to become very popular, just like how it was with Mukesh.

During the heyday of Radio in India in 1960s and 1970s, there were many popular radio programmes. There was one Radio programme called “Chayageet” on Vividh Bharati daily at 10 PM. The songs played in this song were typically old songs which I as a young kid regarded as boring. There were certain songs which I associated with this programmes. Typically, songs which were “bhoole bisre” and not so popular with the janta were played in this programme.
