Mukesh and his Co-Singers –13
————————————————
My last post on Mukesh and his Actors – 04 featured Feroz Khan wherein, in the penultimate para of the post, I made a mention of taking up yet another popular actor for whom Mukesh gave playback. When I prepared the list, I was pleasantly surprised to find more than one song of the actor’s association with Mukesh is yet to be covered and hold your breath… including the last song that Mukesh sang before he left the country for a concert in August 1976 and never returned.

‘Sitam’ (1991) was produced by Vikram Makandar (Vikram, the actor) who also wrote the story. The film was directed by the then husband-wife duo – Aruna-Vikas. The cast included Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Vikram, Arun Sarnaik, Keith Stevenson, Sulabha Deshpande, Manju Asrani, Vikas Desai, Master Hith (Aruna-Vikas’s son) etc. The film is said to be based on a real-life story which happened during a football match. The film’s completion was delayed as Aruna-Vikas were pre-occupied with their young daughter’s cancer treatment and subsequently her passing away in 1983. The film’s shooting was completed sometime in 1984. This was the only film which Vikram produced.

Hullo Atuldom
I love to see films in which actors who are siblings, parents with the actor or related in someway with the actor, cast in important roles. There are umpteen such films in India – in all languages. The film, in this category, that I really love to see (and have seen many times) is “Kal Aaj Aur Kal” which had the whole Kapoor Khandaan enacting their real-life relationships. Additionally, it had Babita who went on to become the daughter-in-law of the family, just as in the film. Then there is “Zamaane Ko Dikhaana Hai” which had Randhir & Rishi Kapoor playing brothers. There was one more movie in 2012 -“Housefull 2”- that had the two playing brothers who are constantly competing with each other etc.

Today’s song is from the film Pyar ki Manzil-1950. This is the last song of this film covered here and the film will become YIPPEED !
The film was produced by ‘Superteam Federal Productions’, Bombay – a name I have never heard. Possibly this was one of those mushroom production banners which had erupted post second world war, with people earning black money and then investing in filmmaking. It was directed by Keki Mistry and the music was by the successful team of Husnlal Bhagatram.

Today’s song is from the film Bhabhi-1938.
When the film ‘Bhabhi’ is mentioned, we first remember the 1957 AVM film Bhabhi, which had very good songs like ” Chal ud jaa re panchhi” in 3 parts or “Chali chali re patang meri chali” etc. This was a very successful and a popular film – a truly ‘Family Picture’, in those days. There were 3 movies with the same title ‘Bhabhi’ released in 1938, 1957 and 1991.
