SASSI PUNNU (1946) was produced under the banner of Vaswani Art Productions and was directed by J P Advani. The starcast included Jairaj, Geeta Nizami, E Billimoria, Bibbo, Gope, Yashodara Katju, Narbada Shankar etc. There were 10 songs in the film, all penned by I C Kapoor which were set to music by Pandit Gobindram.

The decade of the 50s and the 60s clearly belonged to Johnny Walker. From 1951 to 1969, JW worked in 142 films – an average of 6 films per year. This means, every 2 months a JW film was released. This is a very high average, which I feel many leading stars also must have found difficult to achieve for successive years. There must be very few to get this number. In the year 1955 alone his 17 films were running at a time in theatres ! In the period 1970 to 1989 he did only 42 films, which averages to almost just 2 films a year.

What do film stars do when they retire or stop working ?

Actually, the artistes can be divided into two parts. One, those who stop working voluntarily or retire by choice and Two, those who stop getting work and are compelled to retire. Of course the first category has definite plans post retirement, so they do what was planned. However those who stop getting work or are compelled to call it a day have either to fall back on their savings or do something else to survive.
