Geeta Dutt had originally sung this bhajan (“Rakh na ramakda”) in Gujrati movie “Mangal Phera” (1949) for music director Avinash Vyas and that has gone on to become an evergreen bhajan in Gujarati. The same Bhajan was used in “Saadhana” (1958). This time, N Datta was the music director and Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the bhajan in Hindi. Geeta Dutt, who sang it originally in Gujarati, sang it it in the Hindi version too.

Ab kaun sunegaa haay re

Here is a rare song from an obscure movie called “Darogaji” (1949). This song is from an entirely different era over six decades ago. Those were the days when Geeta Dutt was still Geeta Roy, and Nargis had yet to become a very big name actress.

Naache ghodaa naache ghodaa

Till recently, scoring centuries of songs took me just a fortnight. But now I have slowed down considerably. My previous century (song number 2101 to 2200) took me one month. Even that was much faster than my present century. Yes, this song is song number 2300 for this song, and it has taken me a tortoise like two months and a half to reach from 2201 to 2300 !

I have posted several songs from “Baazi” (1951) in this blog in the past. This song being posted now is one that is very well known to many, but I was not aware of this song. When I listened to this song (just now) for the first time, I wondered how I had never heard this song before.

When I watch many movie titles and story lines of old movies, I notice that many of them could not be made today because they would be regarded as politically incorrect in these days of being politically correct. I do not think we can have songs mentioning Bombay, Madras etc nor can we describe people as Junglee, blind, langdaa etc without invoking the wrath of some group of people or the other.

I have posted a few songs from “Do Bhai” (1947) in this blog. It is in this movie that Geeta Roy (later Geeta Dutt) made her debut as a playback singer. It is in this movie that she sang the well known “mera sundar sapna beet gayaa”.
