This post may likely be the most peculiar one of this series. Here we see a song, or more accurately a song snippet, reused in a most peculiar manner.
The film is ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’ from 1963. Recently, I chanced upon this song snippet, which is part of a song from another film. I have seen this film maybe once or twice earlier, but did not register or remember this song snippet being present in the film. A friend recently brought this to my attention, and I thought of writing this post.

What is 90? Well, nothing more than a number.
And yes, it is also a milestone in life, that many a blessed people arrive at, and continue to move ahead. It brings up another thought – what is life at 90? No need to elaborate on that one. Yes, we all have seen folks in our families, in friend circles, in the group of acquaintances. Folks who have arrived at the 90th milestone, and continue. Sometimes those impressions are not so palatable. Sometimes the physical bodies, and sometimes even the spirit, is so tenuous and vulnerable. Yes, it is wonder to be at 90, and beyond. One hundred years ago today. One of the most revered persona of Hindi film music was born in Delhi. Today, we are celebrating his centenary birth anniversary. More famous for his somber, sad and poignant renditions, he is known as the singer of melancholia. Once even he admitted in an interview, that his own preference is to sing songs of melancholy and sadness, rather than songs of light, comic or romantic mood. Of course romantic moods for him also meant ‘poignant’ for him. As is the song I am presenting in this post today.

The search for songs of Mukesh continues as we close in on his last set of remaining songs that are yet unpublished on the blog. With the current count (prior to this post) at 818, there still is a good number of songs to be tracked and brought on board. The revised and updated Mukesh Geet Kosh (compiled by Shri Harish Raguvanshi of Surat) which was released in November of 2020, puts the number of Hindi songs identified at 980. I am sure the regulars will remember. Reviving this series after a gap of almost seven years. When I paused working on this series, I had already posted 71 of some of the most rare, less heard and not easily available songs of Mukesh. The songs posted were mainly from the decades of 1940s and 1950s. Although I had clicked on the pause button back in 2016, the work to bring on board more of Mukesh songs did continue. And it still does, with the tireless research effort of our resident Mukesh expert and mureed (मुरीद), dear Mahesh ji.

Of course yes. A repeat song again. And what a wonderful song at that.
The original song from the film ‘Hum Dono’ has become such an iconic fixture in the nostalgia, one of those peerless creations that may not be duplicated , maybe ever. It was the first and the only stint of music director Jaidev with Dev Sb’s Navketan banner. This singular partnership, with Sahir Sb writing the lyrics has given a bouquet of long and deep memories to generations of listeners.
