The movie “Padosan” was a laugh riot. The movie was a musical blockbuster too. Apart from the by now legendary ” mere saamne waali khidki mein” “ek chatur naar”,this movie had other hummable songs as well and these songs have their fan following too.

“Albela” was a definitive movie in Bollywood history. Bhagwan, then a C grade movie producer, took a big risk in producing this movie which was a big step forward for him. He took a big financial risk in producing this movie, and his gamble paid off. It is another matter that he failed to replicate the success of this movie in his subsequent movies, and he went back to where he was, before this movie happened.

The movie “Nazraana” of 1961 had not one but two deepawali songs. One was a happy deepaawali song and the other was the sad one. The sad deepaawali song ” ek wo bhi deewali this ek ye bhi deewali hai” is the most pupular song of this movie.

In 1970s, Rajesh Khanna was the reigning male superstar whereas Hema Malini was the dream girl. But the two hardly paired with each other. Rajesh Khanna was mainly paired with Mumtaz and Sharmila Tagore, whereas the pairing of Dharmendra and Hema Malini was taken for granted those days.

Here is a Mukesh song with a difference. Yes, it is not a sad song. It is a happy song.

This song is from a by now forgotten movie called “Naadaan” (1971) and it was picturised on Navin Nischol. This song was reasonably popular at that time. There are many instances when songs from obscure movies went on to become evergreen. This song from a barely remembered movie called Shagoon (1964) is one such song. I have listened to this song and I liked it too, but I had no other information other than the fact that the male voice belonged to Rafi.

During the heyday of Radio in India in 1960s and 1970s, there were many popular radio programmes. There was one Radio programme called “Chayageet” on Vividh Bharati daily at 10 PM. The songs played in this song were typically old songs which I as a young kid regarded as boring. There were certain songs which I associated with this programmes. Typically, songs which were “bhoole bisre” and not so popular with the janta were played in this programme.

I am sure no one recalls this 1978 movie called “Tumhaari Kasam”. In fact I do not think this movie was ever released in the parts of the country where I was growing up in 1970s. But I recall having heard this song and liking it.

Now that I have rediscoverd this song, after all of 30 years- and with the video of the song to boot, I realise that this beautiful song was picturised surprisingly well.
