When it comes to remembering important dates, I am quite forgetful and absent minded. The only important date in my family that I never forget is my daughter’s birthday, because she looks forward to it from many days in advance. Other than that, details like my wife’s birthday, our wedding anniversary etc are dates that I always forget, much to the chagrin of my wife.

In western cultures, only one day in the spring season , called Valentine’s day is dedicated for love. In Indian culture , on the other hand, an entire season, viz the rainy season is the season of love. It did not begin with the advent of Bollywood movies. Even in ancient Sanskrit novels, for instance in Kalidas’ “meghdoot”, we find the rainy season described as the season when there is love in the air.

It has been pointed out by my readers that the song “Ramaiyya vasta vaiyya” from “Shree 420” (1955) is missing from the blog. Not just this song, I am sure many great gems of yesteryears are missing from the blog. But I will gradually add all these songs. I sincerely believe that parents should take care of their kids and they should not deprive them of their basic requirements. And what did a kid like me want in 1972 as his basic requirement ? It is easy to notice that the song is picturised on Dhumal and Tuntun who emerge out of the church after getting married and then immediately burst into this comic song. The song is sung by Rafi and Geeta Dutt.

For many movie watchers, Meena Kumari and Raj Kumar epitomise tragedy roles. And if they are there together in a movie, then one may be justified in fearing the worst, viz ‘Kaajal” (1965). But fortunately, they did not start their careers with such roles, and they can be seen playing happier roles even together. “Ardhaangini” (1958) is one such movie where they were together playing happier roles.

“Aayi Milan Ki Bela” (1964) is a movie that to my mind was carried on the back of its lilting music. I do not think that people would have gone to watch this movie for Rajendra Kumar’s histrionics, if the movie did not have its awesome music.
