Today (26 september) is the 89th birth anniversary of Dev Anand (26 september 1923- 3 december 2011). On this occasion, here is a song from “Lootmaar” (1980). In fact this song has two versions. The first version is sung mainly by Kishore Kumar, with voices of Varsha Bhonsle and Shivangi Kolhapure also figuring. This version is lip synced by Dev Anand, Tina Munim and a kid playing Dev Anand’s son. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify this kid.

In Hindi movies, the hero is often a small kid in the first reel who then transforms into the grown up hero in the blink of an eye. The kid who plays the role of the young hero shares the same hair style, dress and mannerism that the grown up hero is known for. Thus master Mayur (playing Amitabh Bachchan’s childhood role) would sport the same hairstyle and dress that Amitabh Bachchan was known for, and he would in fact even sing love song for the small girl who would later grow up to become the heroine. 🙂

AAWAAZ (1956) was a Mehboob Production film directed by Zia Sarhadi. I do not know the story of the film but when Mehboob and Zia Sarhadi come together for a film, one can expect that with their leftist ideologies, the film would depict the class conflict between rich and poor. The film had Rajendra Kumar and Nalini Jaywant in the lead roles with Usha Kiran, Zul Vellani, Nazir Hussain, Leela Chitnis, D K Sapru, Jagdeep, Anwar Hussain, etc in the supporting roles. With a story of class conflicts and Nazir Hussain and Leela Chitnis in the film, one can visualise that the film would have a lot of melodramatic contents.
