Two female singers dancing in tandem was a staple diet of B grade historical/ mythological movies of 1960s. But here we find the same thing happening in a Muslim social movie. The movie is “Mere Mehboob” (1963) and here Sadhana and Ameeta are found dancing and singing joyously. They sing in the voices of Lata and Asha Bhonsle respectively.

There is one genre of movies that is popularly known as Muslim socials. These are love stories among Muslim characters. These movies tend to have spectacular music in it typically composed by Ravi, Naushad,Roshan, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc. The lyrics of these songs are quite poetic with reference to words like “hizaab”, “Bahaar”, “Shokhi”,”mehboob” etc.

I recall listening to this song quite a lot and liking it too. I knew that the song was sung by Mahendra Kapoor, but that is all I knew about this song. And as this song ran its course, I forgot all about this song.

Ab do dilon ki mushqil

These days I am posting songs from “Pooja Ke Phool” (1964). I have noticed that this movie has some wonderful songs in it. So far I have posted two songs from this movie which were sung by Lata. These songs are easily among the best songs that the Lata-Madan Mohan combination gave us in their long association.

In my definition, Chaayaageet song is one which is sung in the period between 10 PM to midnight. :D. That way, a song talking about a period after midnight is not a chaagyaageet song. May be I should call such a song as “post Chaayaageet period” song.

I have mentioned it many times that Chitragupta, despite his outstanding musical talent would not go out and socialise with big wigs of the industry and that is what prevented him from landing big banner movies. For instance, the first time he was introduced to raj Kapoor was in late 1980s by his sons Anand and Milind, and on meeting him, Raj Kapoor said that he was a big fan of Chitragupta and he would have loved to work with Chitragupta had he met him in their heydays.
