Today (26 january 2013) is the 63rd Republic day of India. Though India had gained political freedom two years back on 15 august 1947, it was on 26 january 1950 that Indian constitution came into existence in India which defined the future course of action for this country. This document- the Indian constitution has since held the nation together and united and the country, despite facing extremely difficult challenges over the decades, has come a long way in the path of progress and development.

This day, 50 years ago, the nation woke up to some somber and dreadful headlines. The war on the Himalayan border had intensified, with fresh attacks by China, on the Indian border outposts, after a lull of about 3 weeks. A border dispute between the two countries had reached a flash point with China attacking India, in a planned and concentrated manner in the very early hours of 20th October, 1962. In what is termed as the Himalyan Blunder on the part of the political and military leadership of India, within a matter of 4 days, we had lost large tracts of territory on both the eastern sectors (NEFA, now known as Arunachal Pradesh) and the western sectors (Askai Chin). After gaining a very important strategic and psychological upper hand, China announced a unilateral cease fire and there was a lull in fighting for a period of three weeks.

Greetings all friends and visitors to this blog, on the 65th anniversary of independence of our nation. Happy Independence Day.
In the years before 1947, the film censorship was of course in the hands of the foreign British rulers. The seeds of the sentiments and passions for being free of an oppressive foreign rule had been well laid during the 1857 uprising. It was the first major cry for a free nation, and over a period of almost a century after that, this sentiment was kept alive by many an activists, writers, poets and social leaders.

“Bandini” (1963) was a movie based on pre independence days when Indian was still under British occupation. “Bandini” (1963) is the story of Nutan who is serving jail sentence in a jail. The jail also has a freedom fighter who is to be hanged. This song is sung by the freedom fighter as he is being led to the gallows.
