I was not aware of this movie called “Pyaar Kaa Saagar” (1961). It turns out that this movie had Rajendra Kumar and Meena Kumari in lead roles.

In Hindi movies, boy and girl cannot get introduced in a nice and gentle manner. Their initial encounter must be abrasive, with the boy making passing at the girl and the girl not liking it a bit. A teasing song would follow, and somehow, by the end of the song, the girl would melt and begin responding to the advances.

I have posted several songs from “An Evening in Paris” (1967). Here is a lesser known song from this movie, at least as far as I am concerned. I was not aware of this song till a few hours ago, and I became aware of this song only when I was looking at the list of old farmaishes given by my readers.

During the golden era of Hindi film music, movies, irrespective of their grading (A, B, C or whatever) tended to have A grade music. Not just the big name music directors, even lesser music directors were just as good as any. It is just that opportunities were few and far between and any many great talents were starved of opportunities.

“Jigri Dost” (1969) is a movie chokefull of awesome songs.With time, the movie as well as its songs have gone into oblivion but listening to these songs again is always a good and pleasant experience.

I find that there are many songs that I love listening to without having an inkling about their details. And with time getting the details of these songs becomes a problem in case that movie does not do well at the box office.

It was in 1960s that Indians were first treated to views of countries outside India and the Indian audiences were left gasping at the sight of the world, viz Japan, Europe etc and the progress that they had made vis a vis India left a lasting mpression in Indian minds, not that it led to any progress or introspection among Indians. They were just happy to enjoy these foreign locales on the movie screens.
