This is a song from a Raj-Nargis film Bewafa-52 and it is sung by Talat Mahmood.

It is not very common that Talat sang for Raj Kapoor. Raj was convinced that only the voice of Mukesh suited him, so in all the films that he produced or directed, he used to try using Mukesh for his songs. However,as a true Professional, if he were to work for some other producer or under a different Director, he followed the policy of strict Non-interference. So, in such films, we see other singers giving playback to Raj Kapoor, depending on the choice of the producer or director. Talat sang a total of ten songs for Raj Kapoor in 4 films, as following-

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Sunday was a learning experience. I visited the encyclopaedia of atuldom. I realised that the wealth of knowledge is not only because he has seen Indian movies but has also read about them. And I was amazed by the system he uses for writing a post. I took the liberty of asking for his collection of The HFGK. And I felt humbled that we in atuldom are celebrating 10900 and here is someone who has volumes on all the songs from the time Hindi films were born. But of course Hamrazji’s work of passion is different from what Atul has set out to do. So that brings us back to the main question. Is atulsongaday atulji’s passion or a vividh bharati for all of us where we send our farmaishes. I have lost count of the number of times I have raised this question. And Atulji, very sportingly just posts one more of our farmaishes :).

Recently I have requested Sudhir Sir to find a rare Rafi song for me. It is a song which actually brought me to to this blog. It is a non-film song which nobody seems to know anything about. Three years ago I was desperately searching for the full lyrics of this prayer poem ‘Khud jiyo auron ko bhi jeene do’. I searched extensively on the net but could not find the full lyrics. I had no inkling at that time that Rafi sahab had sung this song. But some site (I do not remember which one) had this information that this prayer/poem was by Rafi sahab and it was picturized in a film by Films Division of India, where none other than Prithvi Raj Kapoor is singing it in front of a classroom. There after I searched for it high and dry,but the result was always zilch. Now I have no way of verifying if the information about the song is strictly correct or not. But it was a start and unfortunately also the end of it. All this time this thing has always been in the back of my mind, which comes to fore from time to time. Like it did the other day when I made that request to Sudhir Sir.
