If one has to classify songs on the basis of their popularity then we have extremely well known timeless classics on the one end of scale to totally obscure forgotten gems on the other end of the scale. EID MUBARAK to all our readers, wherever they are on this Globe. Today is a Happy day for the celebrations.
Having grown up in HYDERABAD-the Muslim state of the Nizam- in the 40s,( Hyderabad was annexed to India in 1948,after Patel’s ‘Police Action’), I have very fond memories of Eid. Though Hyderabad merged with India, It was an independent state till 1-11-1956, therefore the Muslim customs, manners, festivals, education and Eating habits continued to have a major influence on Hyderabad public. (In Nov 1956, Hyderabad was Trifurcated. 5 districts of Marathwada merged with Bombay state, 3 Kannada speaking districts merged with Karnataka and remaining 8 Telugu speaking districts merged into the newly formed Andhra Pradesh.( and again now these 8 districts are separating from Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana State !).
