In Hindi movies, there used to be a case where a character would decide to leave his/her family/neighbours/friends for ever, not knowing where he/she would go. I call such songs as “chal ud ja re panchhi” song, in honour of the iconic song from “Bhaabhi” (1957) that depicted this scenario.

I have discussed one song from “Mirza Sahiban”(1947) in the past. considering that this is one of the four major tradional Punjabi tragic love stories, one would normally expect to have love songs (tragic or otherwise) in a movie like this. So I am pleasantly suprised to find that this movie has a light hearted song as well.

In Hindi movies, mujra songs are quite common, especially in Hindi movies of 1950s to 1970s. When one looks at the lyrics of these mujra songs, one finds that the lady, who is supposedly from the poorer and lesser educated section of society, uses quite sophisticated and high sounding words and highly evolved thoughts in her mujra songs.

“Aage Badho” (1947) is a forgotten movie from the past. It had Dev Anand, Khursheed,Vasant Thengdi and Kusum Deshpande in lead roles. Chances are, other names were the lead actors and Dev Anand, then a new comer could be a lesser actor in this movie.
